I would too. They're a proper bitta kit. I wouldn't call them ugly either - they have a "functional" sort of look about them.

And tbh, I'd say a bit of a sleeper? No one expects the utter power of those engines.

This is it. The fact that it looks like an ox-cart seems to make people forget about the 2l turbocharged boxer, same a 'Preza bah!

Friend of mine had an Impreza turbo (WRX I believe). Remember when he took me out on a spin the day he got it.
It would pull you back into the seat in a split second and pulling yourself forward wasn't an easy task.
Drank like an alcoholic though but I think worth it :D

Yes, I had a similar experience some years back in a similar one belonging to a mate of mine. You don't expect a slightly boring, harmless-looking Jap saloon to be quite to head-alteringly radge, do you. :pac:

One for the fixer upper thread there

It's a bargain because it won't pass the next NCT.

Agreed. I hate to say it, but that's a proper heap. Unless you're able for it, you've no business of it.

Don't go over the top now. Decent car for €1,300 but I wouldn't really offer much more than a bit over a grand myself. The remaining tax is a nice bonus though, for sure!
    six months test

You grossly overstating the test left again today just to annoy me or what :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭johndaman66

Ha, seller mentions 9 months test, then inputs Sept 2016 as the NCT expiry, yet the disc show the NCT expiry to be the begining of July. 120,995 is input as the mileage, yet the mileage marked on the NCT disc is 169,220. All a bit worrying really. Nonetheless nice runaround for the money.

Unmolested 1.4 bora with test until end of 2016 as per disc; Not a lot of info apart from that apart fro 4 good tyres were told. I know that 1.4 not a good engine at all but for the money drive it away in true bangernomics fashion until it croaks and then rinse and repeat etc.

Jesus, to tell you truth john I hardly glanced at the ad! Would make you think though if it was originally advertised for sale with 9 months and he hasn't bothered changing the wording of the ad in two months!

Guys, i registered to say thank you all for posting about bangernomics. I had never heard of it until recently when a friend linked me to this very thread when i was on the lookout for a new car. A couple of weeks ago i bought myself a 2005 MKII Focus for a bargain price of just E1200 which includes tax until June and NCT until July. Ill definitely become a contributer to this thread in the hope of someone else getting a bargain like i got.

Wow, that's seems like great value. I'm in the market for an '05 Focus myself and most are going for 3k upwards.

I wanted a hatchback initially. The guy had this saloon for sale for €1600 but he accepted €1200 which actually made me a bit wary if I'm honest. My mechanic gave it a good look over and apart from a camshaft sensor it didn't need a single thing.

I should also add that the previous owner had 4 new tyres put on the car in November aswell as doing the timing belt.

To tell the truth you probably could do better for the money (€500) but a new test on this Lancer could make it a nice buy for someone. A car thief's dream!

^^ That Mitsu -- am I right it has SOHC 73 BHP engine? Bit too weak for a 1.1 tonne lump of steel I'd say. ;)

Wrong gearbox - and its suspiciously cheap at under a grand - but if you're local it is surely worth a look with brand new test, albeit until September

As much as I favour the S80 over the '60, this one looks more honest and I would be inclined to give my money to this person first.
