This is finally down to a reasonable price. Full twelve months test on it

Very well sorted Mk2 Golf with new test. Diesel which won't set the world on fire but frugal and reasonable to tax. Has that VW sc3n3 appeal and price tag but still.

    Bit pricey isn't it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,035 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

    Thoughts?

I think I might be a bit optimistic with the price.

Bang on in my opinion. The tax for two more months is the reason.

Fresh test till next year and even some tax. Not bad for €1500 if you're a new driver looking for something insurable..

Faux-GTI with a good bit of test and a caring owner of eight years for a smidge over a grand

    RX8

    Worth a look...

This is my dream car in a realistic world but I just couldn't afford the cost of having to employ a driver for the petrol truck you need running beside it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

That one needs a new cat.

It wouldn't be half as bad as you think :)

    It's probably worse. :D

Had one and it was hardship in every sense. Lovely car though shame the engine is so touchy.

    Oh really?
I'm only going on the word of a friend of a friend of a friend, I've always wanted one but I've always been put off by a conversation I had many years ago about them. I think they are the most beautiful car on the road, especially in black with the red leather interior.

I just think if you are doing low enough miles to allow for a petrol, late twentys mpg's while out on a run would be acceptable enough, particularly given the dip in fuel prices at the minute.

If you are thinking about it, there's probably never going to be a better time.

It might be time to twist the wifes arm, she is a huge fan too. Our mileage is minimal at best, less than 100 a week I'd say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Less than a hundred miles a week? Sure at 20mpg, that'd only set you back just €25~. Unless you are on the scratcher or something I mean ffs :pac:

Make sure you get a good one cause a wrong un will only be looking good on your driveway :D

    HA! I wish :)
What are the engines like though? Absolute rubbish would be an understatement judging by that same guys comments.

What should she(of course I mean myself) be looking out for when looking?

Would doing only 100 miles per week not give him more problems? Rotor chatter etc from all the short journeys.

I'd bring a specialist to be honest.

As for the engines they flood just for the craic. The tips are what uaully burn out then your talking money. Theyre a lovely car though.

This is 9nly a 5 speed I'd keep an eye out for a 6 speed 230 bhp if you can find one. They go for similar money but have the same issues

The lubricant in the RX8 needs time to heat up, so a long run. Short runs mean it's less effective and the engine gets damaged.
I think the RX7 had the same issue.
Always preferred the look of the RX7 over the 8, looked more like in the league of the 911, where the RX8 feels more in MR2/Celica territory.

So bangernomics. Here we have a one owner, tidy looking 96 Starlet with ten months test and ten months tax (worth €300 in itself). At €995 it isn't the cheapest small hatchback we've had and you certainly could buy a 2.0 Volvo for the same money. But if you are looking for a small, frugal, respectable and reliable car to get from A to B, is it worth the premium or do you look elsewhere for something with shorter test and no tax for a few hundred cheaper?

Posting a car I'm selling myself

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/saab-93-2-0l-nct/11541876

    A) Because it's bangernomics
    B) Because I'd appreciate pointers on getting it sold (only up 2 days, but still appreciate some commentary from the collective expertise here!)

    Comments?

Going to update the advert today with a picture of the dash/lights as suggested, but in the last week, no call/text at all related to this car.

With short test, that is a 500 quid car imo.
I'm in the market for a 500 quid machine at the minute as I'm putting my car for sale and need something to bridge a gap of a few weeks when sold.
    Don't like saab though.

That's a fair point, and I obviously do have flexibility on price, although I'd take points off your post's helfulness for the bait and switch regarding wanting a short-term car and then saying you don't like Saabs! ;)

I will also take a look at the logistics (insurance etc.,) of getting car in for an NCT. The whole advert is correct, including the couple of thousand miles only since last NCT (and most of those on the N7 motorway), so I'd expect it to go through relatively quickly.

Sorry about that. I just added that I didn't want a saab in case you thought I was trying to devalue your car and then buy it .

No worries, look best way to avoid that impression is just to buy it for asking-price+10%. We can sort that out later in the week, I'll even through in €10 luck money :D

Saab’s are great cars, or were great cars, until GM got their hands on em

Plenty of nice bangers out there too bad insurance is twice the price of the car

1 owner 45,000 miles. 3 original keys still present. NCT February 2017. Taxed until April.

Few dings from the bingo car park. But on the face of it, an honest hack if got for less.

    clicky
