Nice colour, clean body, low mileage and probably never ventured too far outside the county. Tested till October and taxed till end of april. Be a solid buy for someone especially if a few pound could be got off the price ;)

Two litre GT 323. Nice looking car imo, new test and some tax. I don't know if many would be willing to pay the tax on something like this though

Pretty sure I remember hearing a dodgy story about that car on boards last year?

really ugly car but it the cheapest one I've seen posted if the batteries aren't worn out it would seem to be a good deal

And for the same price, with the same amount of tax and test, in the same end of the country. Spoiled for choice..

The Toyota is much better built and has a much better, albeit larger engine.

The swifts are cool little cars though especially if you get one with a 1.3 engine ;)

Their really tinny though and prone to rust. The 1 liter is a bit weak too. :)

    Tinny+rust=weightreduction bro :P
Ah no I get what you're saying, there's a number of better small cars out there for the same sorta money. I just have a soft spot for their boxy looks and 50/50 rear lights :D

05 Primera, couple of days of tax, though not into arrears for another month, and an NCT until July, and could be bought for €900.
Advert low on servicing detail, though at that price I would guess you get what you pay for.

Would expect the market for pre 02 cars must be badly hit by the decision of many insurance companies not to insure them???

Well my wife just tried to renew and the broker said because the car was 01 that only one company would quote her.

I am looking at something in bangernomics range with a small engine but the insurance crap is pushing me to look at 02/03 at least.

I think AXA is still 20 years. I insured a 98 golf (new policy) in July last, unless it's changed since then.

We just bought a bangernomics Opel Astra 2000. Went through a broker and only one underwriter would quote. My own insurance through Cornmarket underwritten by RSA would not quote. Premium is almost twice that our other car, a 1999 Mazda 626 (due to the age of the car when the policy was taken out according to the broker). Both cars are in great condition for the year and I plan on driving them for a while yet. It does make cars older than 2002 pretty much unsellable, especially if there aren't many competitors for insurance premiums. There are lots of great cars out there older than that - both at the barge and banger end if the market - that will be taking undue early trips to the scrapyard if the insurance debacle continues.

It makes you wonder what the NCT is for. Surely if a car can pass the NCT then it should be more than capable for the road. Just because a car comes from the age of 1997-2000 doesn't mean it is any less safe. First they change the car tax rates to suit people who can afford a newer car 2008 and then make diesel cars have even cheaper tax rates.

Well given the lack of any evidence that the NCT had made road use safer, it seems more likely that the whole thing was a racket to support the new motor trade.
But as the NCT ended up improving the 2nd hand car market the new motor vendors would seem to be finding ways to make older car ownership more difficult, certainly more costly.
I know it sounds paranoid but that's how it seems to be playing out.

It's true, a 20 year old car might be mechanically sound, and deemed safe to be on the road due to having a valid NCT,

    Try insuring it though.

You really want to be getting it for €500 and even then its only going to appeal to odd balls like me but this would make a super city runabout.

They're cool little cars alright. The video of a 1.4 diesel one getting round the nurburgring in under 10 minutes is a great watch :D
