Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

England just out muscling a part time team. Sad by England that they need to maul to get some tries.

Just looking for negative things to say. They're already out.

Absolutely. And we still haven't seen a replay from the side of that. Defo forward.

Watson was offside as well, ahead of the kick.

It's got to be ridiculously hard for them to get up for this match. They're either going to be so depressed they can't do anything or so over eager to prove something that they make too many mistakes. Think it's pointless criticising or praising them based on this match.

That said, Henry Slade has got lovely hands.

I don't agree, England can't have any pride in the jersey if they don't flatten these minnows.

Haskell doing all he can to stop England from running up a big score.

Looking at the happy faces of English fans after the try you would swear they were on the verge of qualification, I suppose it's the beer.

England finally playing their best 10,12,13 partnership, with only 20 minutes left of their campaign.

Would it have made a difference if Lancaster brought Tuilagi along?

I think the problems with English rugby go beyond selection of one individual over another, it probably runs deeper than the coaching of Lancaster et al. But they will be convenient scapegoats

Listening to the rubbish commentary on TV3 you would swear that all England's problems are now behind them and they are ready for the next RWC.

I didn't even realise Robshaw was playing tonight.

True but I just think considering how narrowly they lost to Wales that he could have changed things and at least got them to the quarters. His performance against NZ in 2012 was absolutely terrific and I have a feeling that in spite of his childishness he will always bring his A game to the world stage.

Not sure that's TV3 commentary, think it's the ITV commentary along with the stream but I am completely open to being corrected.

But yeah, I had to laugh, they were finding loads of space against Uruguay and talking about how this is England's future centre partnership as a result.

I mean, it may well be - but giving Uruguay a beating isn't exactly proof of anything.

All that said, was great to see the crowd right behind the team all the way through to the closing whistle.

Bad job when the best player on the pitch for you is the 37 year old you called up halfway through the tournament after he'd been on the lash for a month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Commendable efforts in the group by Uruguay. I know I wasn't the only one who felt due to the quality of all their opponents they would ship 100 points at least once, probably twice. They've been relatively competitive in all games, just physically a couple of leagues below. Made for a hard time scoring, scrumming and maul defending.
But fairplay they gave their all and show the gap is closing slightly.

I'd say they'd benefit massively from a nutritionist and a weights coach

To be honest, they're a bit like a division 1A team who've got a few provincial players in like Galwegians with Ally Muldowney, Daragh Leader and Caolin Blade added to the squad.

No amount of nutritionists and weights coaches could turn that into an International team in 6 or so weeks.

I'd say most 1a teams would smash them off the park tbh. They're tiny.

They'll now be using their 3rd and 4th choice wingers and fullbacks probably, shocking luck.

Beyond the point of bad luck. Either bad luck on a lottery level or something badly wrong with player robustness.

I refused to believe that strength and conditioning was overdone to the point of damage but hard to ignore now. There is certainly a point with fitness where you go too far and break down / get sick easier. Madness.

I dunno. There's no pattern really. J Davies and Liam Williams were injured during last season before Gatland got near them. Webb got his ankle mangled in a ruck. Scott Williams got creamed in a tackle, Amos' injury was just freakish. Eli Walker can never stay fit for more than two weeks so he doesn't count.

If their training really was to blame, you would expect some of their forwards to be breaking down too but they have 100% fitness up front.

    It's just horrendous luck.

I have no idea who they can even call up now. Tom James? Dan Fish? Dan Evans? None of these guys are remotely good enough.

Wales won a game they should have lost and lost a game they should have won, would not be surprised if they beat the springboks

Can they call up someone who was released earlier for injury but is fit again now?

No. Not sure they have anyone who fits the bill anyway.

Eli Walker was never formally registered so could be called up, but he hasn't played for Ospreys all season.

    Hanno Dirksen?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭total former

    Hanno Dirksen?

Yeah, thought about him alright, probably the best of the rest at this stage.

Or maybe Jordan Williams? Just back from injury and always looks dangerous.

Reading quotes from Neil Jenkins, they may not bother calling anyone up...

Eli Walker has been called up by Wales again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Didn't realise Walker could come back in. It must have been very close to the cut off point when he dropped out before.

I think Wales will be physically overpowered this weekend, which isn't something you'd expect from a Gatland coached team. But, when they couldn't bosh their was through 12.5 Australians at the weekend, it was clear that they are going nowhere in this competition.

SA v England would have been a much more interesting game.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Just reading there that Walker isn't even fit to play this weekend. You'd have to wonder what the point of calling him up was.

Pretty much their only choices left are academy players, fringe Rabo squad players, or Henson.

If they miraculously beat SA Walker is the only player who would strengthen their team for the next round.

I can just imagine the PR handler for England looking through the dressing room after the loss to Australia thinking.. "right.. who to send out.. eh.. Haskell.. noooooooo.. Brown.. nooooooooo.. Marler.. jesus.. Has anyone seen Dylan Hartley?"
