I use Bing Maps over Google because they are more up to date and the resolution is better. Just now I've noticed that Waterford City is not named at all on it. You can zoom in and see every back street named but not "Waterford" from any distance.

Anyway I've reported it to them so hopefully it will be resolved. I've never noticed it before just wondering did anyone else?

sure is anyone surprised? It's run by a Kilkenny man - like google.

I've sent in a complaint, let's see if they do anything.

having a closer look, there are a lot of other big towns missing... first one that jumped out was athlone...
so seem Bing maps are not too good

Limerick had the same problem for awhile on Google, I think one of the halting sites in the city came up before the actual city itself did!!

    http://iemap.org/

based on openstreetmap ...... great for specifying an exact location.

But both of them are just google maps.

Bings maps resolution for the east Waterford area is better than google and more up to date.

No, they are based on openstreetmap as I posted and linked to.

No, they are based on openstreetmap as I posted and linked to.

Ok. When I click on your link http://iemap.org and scroll out its a google map interface/imagiery perhaps with openstreetmap data overlay. So I suppose you could say its based on both.

I think bing and google are the only 2 who do decent maps with satellite imagery. Anyone know any others?

If you look at the top left corner you can turn off the Satellite overlay and you are left with openstreetmap details. You can include terrain details from there also.

I think it's being updated. Templemore never appeared on it before and is now on it (it wasn't on it the other day)

Looking again it shows you are correct ...... it is a Google map with the Google copyright at the bottom.

This is the equivalent openstreetmap view
    http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=13/52.2486/-7.1626

    http://www.openpostcode.org/ says
Interactive OpenPostcode map: map with Google Maps, Bing, OSI, OpenStreetMap; get directions and explore locations with Flight Radar, AIS marine traffic, Flickr, Twitter, etc.
but I see no method to change the base map to Bing or other choice.

If I select an alternate map it opens in a separate window rather than changing the base map that is displayed.

The maps I accessed from the options were

    Bing:
    http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?style=b&zoom=13&cp=52.249983~-7.124619

    Openstreetmap:
    http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=13/52.2463/-7.1591

    Nokia:
    https://www.here.com/?map=52.25031,-7.16294,13,terrain

    OSI:
    http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,657802,614208,7,10

Thank you for making me check this properly.
