Just wondering if anyone appointed from outside the civil service has managed to obtain higher than point one of the scale. I'm aware of the department of finance circular E100/8/82 but wondering have there been any exceptions in this competition.

Its called incremental credit- and its not applicable in general grade competitions (such as EO or AO). It might be a proposition for a specialised stream (IT, Accountancy, Economics, etc) but not for general grades.

It gets used more in State Bodies than in the civil service at large (such as trying to recruit qualified staff for laboratory posts etc- in which case their experience after fully qualifying might assist towards a maximum of 3 incremental points on the scale).

Can I ask how long after email notification a letter typically arrives? I had an email last week (in response to a request for updates) but no official letter...
Also, does anyone know if turning down an offer then also removes you from the Irish language panel?

Speaking of the Irish Language Panel- has anyone at all been placed from it?

Long-time lurker! I'm in mid-140s and rang today. They are at 134ish and have pretty much filled the vacancies that were there so will be waiting on new ones to come in now. Just said I'd post in case others waiting every day on their email to ping!

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 shedex

ah, so i imagine those of use above mid-130s might be waiting a while to hear, if we hear anything at all

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 Starblue

The nice girl I spoke to gave me the impression it was more a question of when and not if but obviously they don't know what requests are going to come in. Would think there's still a good chance but it just might be a bit longer

I was hoping an offer would come in sooner rather than later as I have another job offer on the table, but haven't signed the contract yet. Really AO would be my first choice, but I dont think I can delay signing the offer on the other job any longer. Ah well... bird in the hand and all that

You know what they say always easier to get a job from a job! So maybe just put AO on the backburner for awhile

Aye. My idea would be to do the new job for 18months or so, then apply for AO again in 2017, assuming they would run the competition again. Does anyone know if this is going to be annual thing, so long as the economy is running along ok?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

There's no guarantees but.. Over the last few years, there has been AO competitions so it's likely.

Like you said, the economy or some other reason we can't spot right now could come up.

FWIW, I'd say you have a good change of being called before summer if you are in the 130s and they are at 134 like Starblue posted.

Even if you did take the other job, then publicjobs would probably still offer you AO when they got to your position.

I got an e-mail this morning saying that they've reached 132 and that they'll continue to work from the panel as they receive new requests for AOs. Keeping my fingers crossed that they'll get lots of requests in the coming months!

I haven't been keeping an eye on this too closely but what's the highest examined?

Do you mean what number was called to interview in december? That was 250. We haven't quite determined the number on the panel but i think there is people in the 160's definitely

Yes interview is what I meant! I'm 500 so I won't hold my breath anyway.

Congrats! Thats great to get one that ties in with your experience :)

I got my PAS letter and a call from Dept of Health came in yesterday, just waiting while they discuss my start date with my current department's HR, but they asked me to start ASAP. Delighted.

Hi everyone, just wondering how long it took to get your letter after PAS had received the reference from your current employer?

I got my reference email March 1st and my official assignment letter yesterday :) The letter was from PAS saying my Department would be in contact and provided a contact for their HR if I had any queries for them

Mine took about a week, but my ref was interdepartmental and received on a Friday.. so I'd say that is a rough example..

Yeh I should highlight I'm also already in the civil service too so it's all being done between HRs
