So... Does anyone know how the process works after you've been told you're being considered for a position? I'm pretty in the dark.

Good question! I wouldn't mind knowing!

If everything checks out, they pass your information on to the relevant Department, who will then make contact, probably in writing. They'll invite you to get in touch - return a form - and take it from there. They're normally very reasonable about start dates.

There's now a formal training course, delivered partly internally and partly externally, over about a year. It's with AOs from all Departments - they ran three tranches with last year's panel, so I expect they'll do the same with this year's.

Thanks so much! Does this mean that they also try to do tranches for start date? I am currently "in clearance" so eagerly awaiting any further news (i.e. emailing PAS 5 times a day (sorry guys) and running like a puppy to the letter box each morning).

Just got a reply from PAS, they are in the mid 50s with the panel now.

Fingers crossed it keeps going at this pace!

Within Departments/Agencies, if they're taking multiple AOs, they try to co-ordinate, so people aren't starting alone, but some places are only taking 1/2 so there's no universal rule.

I know 2 people fairly high on the list (top 25) who have gone through clearance already, but don't have start dates etc yet.

I wonder if they are holding off until the clearance list is big enough to justify the training?

Anyone who has gone through clearance, did PAS give any indication during contact of whether they were waiting on something like the above?

According to PAS they still in the 50's. I hope the speed isn't slowing down!

Thanks to everyone for posting when they get contacted and their number, this thread is the only thing keeping me from spamming PAS with emails every day!

Got an email today - under consideration for Department of Children and Youth Affairs. I'm in the high 60s. Wondering if maybe they're doing some kind of matching qualifications given that someone in the 80s got contacted before me?

Public Expenditure and Reform. TBH I don't think I'm going to accept it. I've finally got a long awaited transfer to Kildare at EO, after 10 years of commuting and I'm due to start on 29 Feb. The extra hours at home with my kids are worth more to me than the promotion. But its a hard decision to make...

PAS had said yesterday they were on the 50's I wonder are they looking for particular skills or experience. That is a tough call Connmel!

I can relate to that - I've been hounding them about the AP panel, and definitely feel they are getting less enthusiastic about giving a comprehensive answer!!

I know, I think I would be going mad at this stage if it wasn't for all of the updates that people are posting here!

Agreed, its certainly been a positive help.

I do feel bad for PAS officers being asked the same thing over and over so this thread where we can thrash out some of our information has been great.

Yes, this thread stopped me from sending in several emails asking for an update :) and it's great to get some info on what the process is when you do get offered a position.

I have lots of sympathy for the guys in the PAS who are handling my incessant queries, they've been absolutely fantastic, however the distribution of information out could be much better. I mean, if they're willing to answer individual questions in an email, why not just put it in a message for everyone on the PAS application message system?

They would save themselves so much time and effort if they just sent candidates out an automated weekly update on where they were with the panel. :)

I know, I'm really hoping that between the freeze on hiring and the fact that there is an election in a month, they will take all of us ;)

Hi guys, I was top 20 so I thought I'd give ye my experience. Once I was contacted by PAS to let me know I was under consideration, it took my agency/department around two weeks to get on to me with an offer (Maybe it was 15/16/17 days, but in around that timeframe) They rang me in the morning and offered me the job and asked when I could start. The next day I got the contracts in the post.

They were great regarding my start date, I initially selected one date, quickly realized that didn't suit, then rang them back and requested another start date. They said it was no bother.

I know it can be very frustrating waiting around for an email or a call but hang in there everyone.

Thanks for the post, in terms of start dates how long was It from the point of your offer till you started and what was the earliest/latest dates they offered you?

Got an email today saying I'm under consideration however I'm kinda in two minds only cause I've another pending application which if successful might suit me better but likely pays a lot less.
