    Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of information (help) my boyfriend got word he got the navy and is due to go down to cork on the 5.10.15. Can anyone tell me where that leaves family members on seeing him, how long he'll be away??.. As we live together and he has a little girl and her communion is coming up early next year.. What is leave like for things regarding this?.. I'm afraid that hell be away for so long we'll never see him and possibly not last as we are together 6 years.. I'm just so worried that we will barely see him.

Also if there's any wives or girlfriends that's can tell me what it's like for them that have husbands or boyfriends in the navy. 😊

    Thank you.

My girlfriend is in the army. She graduated 3 star in March and went in initially in August last year. We were 4 hours apart when she was training. I thankfully had a car and drove up to see her most of the time. She didn't get out every weekend. The first 3 weeks she did get home at the weekends. But after that it was local leave most of the time or out on Saturday morning and back in Sunday evening. It's hard -very hard. Even some of the times she was supposed to get weekend leave it got cancelled. And so was our plans! The only thing is it doesn't last forever and when he graduates he'll be on fairly regular hours.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to him!

When not at sea on patrol, he will have duties at the base, sentry duty and various watches, whatever housekeeping needs doing, he might begin specialised training in a particular area if he shows an aptitude and that will require study time. His leave will be no worse than an average worker, but he will do more than his fair share of weekends to begin with, such is life at the bottom of the ladder. He certainly won't get much of a chance to be in Dublin, but his schedule will be quite predicable once he gets through basic training, and hopefully he will.

My advice would be if your little girl is young enough, and you have an option to change work yourself and he really intends to make a go of the Naval Service, move to the Cork area. Its a great area to live and you will have the social group of the other Navy families, which is a great support.
