Smart Ultra 6 changing networks. Known problem?

I have a new Smart Ultra 6 unlocked.
    I use a '3' pay-as-you-go SIM with the data add-on.
Mostly it all works just fine.
Once or twice a day (only when travelling around)the network randomly changes from 3 IRL to O2 IRL.
(yes, I know 3 owns O2 but the networks are not integrated- yet)
When this happens I get 'no data service' messages and warnings to turn on roaming!!
I go into 'settings' and 'mobile networks' and 'network operators'
I select '3 IRL' as my preferred network and it all works again until the next time.
    Has anyone seen this problem?
My local '3' shop suggests it may be caused by using 'dodgy' unlock codes.
    Is that possible/likely?
    Help please.
    Ger

I think it's a common problem with any non-3 phone using a 3 sim. Drove me mad for months on my Nexus 4 until I had to change to a 3-bought Samsung.

If you check the 3 forum here on boards you'll find plenty of people with the same complaint, going back months now, while no one in 3 will acknowledge that it's a common problem unfortunately.

I haven't had this problem with my OPO. I wonder will it be resolved when the networks are integrated?

I find setting "network mode" (settings->more networks->mobile networks->network mode) to "WCDMA only" stops my phone switching from Three to O2.
The downside is if you have no Three signal then you have no signal.
Also 4G isn't available with that setting.
I'm not using a Smart Ultra 6 but I assume that setting should be available.

Thanks, but no such setting on VSMU6.
    Plus, I want 4G!! :)

    just switch on data roaming.

I'm a '48' user (the best 48 months of my life apparently)...

Data doesnt work unless I switch on data roaming..... then its fine.
There is permanently a little "R" next to my signal indicator.

Been the case with both handsets I've used in recent years.
