Howdy folks - currently renting an apartment with a galvanised roof (yes you read that correctly - Celtic Tiger how are ya).

Its actually not a bad apartment, city centre, cheapish rent but absolutely freezing for 2 months of the year. Last xmas i was wearing hoodys in bed for a week with an electric blanket on all night. Spoke to the landlord and they have begrudgingly agreed to do something about the insulation - looking for suggestions as to what can be done to improve the insulation given the fact that it will essentially have to be adhered to metal and hopefully not take up too much space (room is small enough as it is)

Appreciate any help or advice anyone has

Have you any photos you can post, is it seriously bare steel that you have for a ceiling? It must be noisy also?
    How high is your ceiling?

Thanks - Cant unfortunately post a link to a photo as a relatively new user - but it is literally like the inside of a shed - i beams and everything running across the ceiling.

Insulating boards look great but there will be gaps as the ceiling is an odd shape.

    Spray on foam insulation?

The best option is to fix boards all around the perimeter of the room at normal ceiling height.
Use these to support joists running across the room.
Fix insulated plasterboard to the underside of the joists, and insulate above them.
You'll need to get the advice of a structural engineer to size the joists & their spacing and approve the fixings to the wall.

Look into Spray foam - would also have the benefit of keeping out draughts.

You may need to move out for a night or two though as it can leave a strong smell for a while.
