    Hi folks,

Just about to close on a sale on a 3 bed semi and first thing needs doing is the windows. Most don't lock and all are broken down double glazing.

My questions are these is anyone can help:-

    1. Can anyone tell me ballpark how much they paid? We have one quote in for 8.5k. House has 12 windows of varying sizes and that qouet also allows for new front and back door.
    2. We want the cheapest option available which seems to be upvc. Anyone any other ways of getting the price down?
    3. Can anyone recommend any providers you've been happy with (pm if not allowed in forum charter)?
    4. How long did it take from getting a price to getting the windows fitted?

    Thanks in advance!

Got 3 windows + front door done just 3 weeks ago. Front door originally was an old wooden front door inside a 0.5m "porch" with a sliding door. So we had the floor of the "porch" raised to meet the hallway and then had a full composite door installed where the sliding door had been. So it wasn't a straightforward replacement, but nothing taxing either.

Composite door (it's like a vault door, I love it), large sitting room window (~2500mm), 2 x bedroom windows (1800mm & 1600mm) + baseboards for just over €4k all in. Arrived at 9am, they were finished by 4pm same day. There was a delay of month in getting them in because we happened to be ordering during the builders' holidays, so the manufacturing facility was shut down for two weeks

We went with <snip> No harm ringing around and getting quotes - don't be afraid to play them off against eachother.

Tbh though, 8.5k for 12 windows + front & back doors sounds like a good deal to me.

    Thanks Seamus. Information much appreciated.

We have a bit of a dilemma regarding the front door. Currently there is an external door leading into a porch and inside the porch there is an external door leading into the house. We are considering only changing the internal door to a composite and leaving the external door as is. The porch isn't great quality but is weather tight. Our priority is keeping the house warm so makes more sense having the door leading into the hallway being good quality. However we may go with a mostly glass door to maximise light into the house.

7 x Large windows (smallest 6 x 4.5ft), 1 patio door and 2 completely glass front door and back door = €7000 from <snip> fully compliant with regulations etc and removal of old window, quote was for €7300 but they where happy to haggle. Great guys, place was spotless when they finished.
