Average length of Warranty for Glasses

    Hi folks,
    Just wondering if anyone would know what is the usual length of time a new pair of glasses are usually under warranty for.
    Wife has a pair here that cost over €350 with a scratch coat and tint and have had to bring them back twice in past 5 months due to faulty lenses/manufacture or other, leading to excessive scratching/fine lines on the lenses
    Optician trying to play hardball and charge her half the price for repairs when the damage/fault is not down to her.
    Receptionist let it slip while talking to her that there have been other customers with similar problems.
    Any advice, been a customer for yonks' and because of very weak eyesight glasses have always been very expensive so has spent a few thousand over the years, but apparently the optician was quite rude and unhelpful about this and not wanting to accept any responsibility.

    It's not a warranty issue; it's a matter of fitness for purpose.

    If you are sure that the problem is due to the scratch coat being inadequate, then she should certainly have enforceable rights under the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act. Such rights can exist for up to six years (depending on the nature of the product).

    We can't be sure what the fault is down to. But we can be sure that the fault is not down to my wife as she has been wearing glasses for over 40 yrs and knows to care and clean them and has never had this type of problem in the past other than normal wear and tear etc
