Registering an 84 VW transporter

Just wondering how I would do this -

I bought an 84 VW transporter.
It previously was registed in Ireland and I know the old reg number.
It was then registered in the North before I bought it and brought it back.
I only have part of the V5C form though.

How would I re-register it in Ireland? Its been off the road for at least 6 years.

you don't have the main part of the V5? you'll need to get it from the DVLA. It's not registered to you?

How long (approx) since it was registered in the Republic?
(i.e. if in last 10-15 years it's old reg number should be still on the system here)

If so, I'd imagine if you present all the relevant paperwork to VRT/NCT centre (partial V5C, receipt from seller, proof of id/address, etc) you should be able to have the old reg number re-assigned, with no payement of VRT due.

Didn't get a receipt from the seller! Must be at least 6 years since it was driving on any road....
When I look it up on cartell.ie, it comes up with:

    Make VOLKSWAGEN
    Model CAMPER
    Description CRUSADER 4DR
    Engine Capacity (cc) 1600

    motorcheck.ie says:

    1984 Make Unspecified
    Body Type
    VAN With Side Windows
    Fuel Type
    Diesel
    Colour
    Grey/blue
    Transmission
    Unknown

You need to go into your local motor tax office, they do it.

I presume you did the cartell check based on the N.I. reg number?
Is the previous (Ireland) reg listed on the V5C documents anywhere?

The motor tax office should be able to trace the old Irl reg number using the chassis number (a friendly garda may also be able to trace it for you via the chassis number). At least if you have the old Irl reg number to hand it strenghtens your case come registration/importation time at the VRT/NCT centre.

Edit: I just read your original post again...so you know the old Irl reg number. Correct?

Yes I know both the UK reg and the old Irish reg - both of them come up with details on cartell and motorcheck.

Problem is I have no proof of ownership other than the bit of the V5 shown above...
