Delighted with my time to be honest. Went out just ahead of the 4:30 pacers but felt good throughout and managed to keep the 4:20 in my sights. Was nearly a minute faster for the second half. I really was flat out for the last 4 miles as I knew under 4:20 was on. Wrecked at the end though. Also, the crowds were brilliant, can't compliment them enough!

It was amazing radio. I was listening to it as I walked across the park and I found myself genuinely caught up in the tale. Powerful stuff.

My A goal was 4:30, and I was on track for the first 17 miles or so, before my glutes tightened up. The last 9 miles were very very tough, but I managed to get through it, just over my B goal of 4:45, so I'm happy with that. Fantastic event, and amazing crowd support. I've a full report in the Novices thread, but I do think I'll be back to build on this debut marathon, perhaps in 2017!

Happy with the time, first time out there was a lot of unknowns. Goal A when signing up was to run every step and very glad that I achieved that!

Is there a prize for most accurate pre-race prediction??!

After near misses in the past two years, I really wanted to get sub-3.30. Instead of fretting over the Garmin and worrying about splits, I decided to ditch all the technology this year including gels - this year's run was fuelled by half a dozen Glucose Barley Sugars. The plan was to run between the 3.20 and 3.30 pacers and hope the yellow balloons never passed me. Felt great up to halfway, and saw that I was well on pace going through the time check, so eased up a little bit to try and keep some fuel in the tank for the last five miles remembering what happened last year when I died on Heartbreak Hill and struggled home. Was prepared to bury myself on the run-in this year if the time was on.

After glancing around a few times and seeing the yellow balloons comfortably in the distance, at the top of Fosters Avenue I spotted that the first 3.30 pacer was getting ominously close which made me get a spurt on. By the time I got to the British Embassy where my wife and daughter were waiting to give me a boost I knew it was definitely on, all I had to do was keep putting one foot in front of the other. That was harder than it sounds, as the run through Ballsbridge up to Mount Street seemed to take forever, my quads were gone, but passing the 800m sign and the incredible noise from the crowd on the way in swept me along and watching the clock, knowing I was in front of the 3.30 pacers and going to make it, was a fantastic feeling. So, three consecutive Dublins done with only 124 seconds between my fastest and slowest- I think I've found my happy pace. Just wish I'd started 20 years earlier when there was some scope for improvement.

Well done to all. Crowd support was brilliant as always, lots of diversion on the way around, lots of good signs. The one that made me laugh most was in a group of three of four middle aged women who were having a ball close to the Children's Hospital in Crumlin. One of them was wearing a sweatshirt which read "We know it's long and hard - since when is that a bad thing???"

Is there a prize for most accurate pre-race prediction??!

After near misses in the past two years, I really wanted to get sub-3.30. Instead of fretting over the Garmin and worrying about splits, I decided to ditch all the technology this year. The plan was to run between the 3.20 and 3.30 pacers and hope the yellow balloons never passed me. Felt great up to halfway, and saw that I was well on pace going through the time check, so eased up a little bit to try and keep some fuel in the tank for the last five miles remembering what happened last year when I died on Heartbreak Hill and struggled home. Was prepared to bury myself on the run-in this year if the time was on.

After glancing around a few times and seeing the yellow balloons comfortably in the distance, at the top of Fosters Avenue I spotted that the first 3.30 pacer was getting ominously close which made me get a spurt on. By the time I got to the British Embassy where my wife and daughter were waiting to give me a boost I knew it was definitely on, all I had to do was keep putting one foot in front of the other. That was harder than it sounds, as the run through Ballsbridge up to Mount Street seemed to take forever, my quads were gone, but passing the 800m sign and the incredible noise from the crowd on the way in swept me along and watching the clock, knowing I was in front of the 3.30 pacers and going to make it, was a fantastic feeling. So, three consecutive Dublins done with only 124 seconds between my fastest and slowest- I think I've found my happy pace. Just wish I'd started 20 years earlier when there was some scope for improvement.

Well done to all. Crowd support was brilliant as always, lots of diversion on the way around, lots of good signs. The one that made me laugh most was in a group of three of four middle aged women who were having a ball close to the Children's Hospital in Crumlin. One of them was wearing a sweatshirt which read "We know it's long and hard - since when is that a bad thing???"[7mile[ 2.58.57][3.04.29][3.11.11]]

Really enjoyable run, well organised and amazingly well supported as always, even with not so great weather at times..

If I had a € for every time I headed the 3:20 pacers balloon I'd be a millionaire
Stuck with the 3:20 for the first half and then pushed on a small bit. Felt good up to about 22 miles and slowed suddenly as I ran out of steam. 3:20 lead guy caught me and gave me a fright which helped me to push on another small bit to get ahead a bit for the finish... Just not enough long runs done myself I think but very happy to get that one under the belt all the same. Loved the walk back to ballsbridge hotel as I could cheer on more runners coming through. Some of the comments I overheard from some people would melt your heart, there was such goodwill and encouragement out there from total strangers to total strangers... Reports of McGratttans being totally jammers put me off it, so got well and truly locked in some other random watering hole

I'm delighted and relieved to see that the woman who collapsed was so incredibly lucky, we passed her just as she went down but I could see the policeman running to her so I knew she would get the help she needed, thankfully it ended well. Having had firsthand experience of bystander CPR saving lives it is always great to hear another story with a happy outcome.

Congrats to all who ran and supported on Monday, another wonderful Dublin marathon! I won't attempt to add Mr Stew and I to the table as I'm sure I'll mess it up; 3.59.37 and 3.59.40 so I'm calling that a job well done:D

Massive thanks to Eugene, Jim and all the amazing organisers at DCM, it gets better every year. Special thanks also to the volunteers and St. John's Ambulance

We really, really enjoyed pacing the 4 hour group with Meno. Everything seemed to run like clockwork and although it was busy and congested all the time for us as expected we were able to run pretty consistent splits from the off.

On a personal note I was overjoyed to cross the Finish Line with Mr Stew; he has returned so strong after his cardiac arrest just 20 months ago, thanks so much to all of you who have been so supportive, we are very lucky to be part of such a wonderful community:D

While you're there @marthastew, can I just say thanks to you and the other 4 hour pacers who eased my 26.2 mile path on Monday.

I stuck with the pace group throughout and I had a brief chat with you at around 23 miles, after which I pushed on just slightly to get in in 3:58 - my novice dream goal achieved.

A great experience with great support from a Dublin crowd. I saw you a good number of times running ahead slightly and encouraging the spectators to encourage us.
Above and beyond.

Strongest race I've ever run and absolutely ecstatic to smash the 3:10 marker. Found the 3:10 pacers to be a bit all over the place so decided to keep running to my own feel and use the watch every so often to verify mile pace. Weather was beautiful. That damp mist/rain that fell on the way down the Clonskeagh road was better than 4 gels. Beautiful. Nice to have a good day out again.

Happy to get a PB, started behind the 3:30 group and lost them early on due to the congestion and was tempted to put on a burst to get up to them in the park, but was running the correct pace then and just decided to stay where we were in case we blew up attempting to catch them.

Ran 3:49:30something last year so was very happy with 3:34:02, even though I had hoped to come closer to the 3:30. But If I had chased down that 3:30 group early on, I think I would have suffered later and would have been lucky to finish ahead of the 3:40s.
