    Hi girls,
I had my scan at 11+1 yesterday. Everything went absolutely fine :-) I had a really good experience at The Rotunda semi private clinic. The doctor was really nice and spent ages talking to us, not rushed at all.

However ... I told my mam yesterday too and her reaction was not good :-( She thinks it's far too soon ( my son is 16 months ). She kind of came around after a bit but it made me a bit sad last night. I can understand why she's a bit shocked as she minds my son 2-3 days a week so I guess she's thinking she'll have 2 small children to mind soon. We're going to re-think child care anyway so I'll explain all this to her today !

Hope you're all keeping well xx

Delighted your scan went so well Shivers and that the Rotunda staff were so nice to you. It makes a special experience all the nicer when those who are with you are lovely.

I'm sorry your mother wasn't happy or at least openly happy for you. I'm of the opinion that mine will be the same when I eventually tell her about this pregnancy. In my heart of hearts I know she will be happy for me/ us and she couldn't be more in love with my little girl and would adore another grandchild. However she will worry about me - the miscarriage this summer was difficult as you'd expect and it also caused a huge flare up of my RA. At the time my mum tried to convince me that just the one child would be enough. I get that she is my mum and so is concerned for me but I want to hear her happiness when I tell her about #2 not her worry. If I get away with not telling until Christmas Eve I'll be 15/16 weeks along then.

I've started to feel more normal- fingers crossed! Today is the first day where I haven't felt like I'm dragging myself around the place. Hopefully this is the 2nd trimester bounce!

Ahh great news Shivers!! You've had a longer wait than most of us to see your baba so enjoy the relief of it :)

I'm sure when it sinks in your Mam will be delighted, as you say it's probably the initial thoughts of possibly minding two little ones that clouded her reaction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,954 ✭✭✭Betsie_xr3i

Oh I know exactly how you feel my mother didn't even respond when we told her I have a 3 year old a17 month old and am 13 weeks pregnant I haven't spoken to her since xx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭shivers27

Thanks so much guys :-) Penny yes you're right, she's just concerned and worried about me. I spoke to her today, she's still not happy but we've agreed to not talk about it for a while as it's just going to cause problems ! I hope your RA doesn't flare up too much during this pregnancy and glad to hear you're feeling "normal" again :-)

Digs yes it has felt like a life time waiting for this scan !! The relief is unreal to little one wriggling around :-)

Aw Betsie sorry to hear your having issues with your mother as well. It's hard isn't it :-( This is such good news and something to be celebrated. I hope our mammies don't take too long to realise that !

Sorry to hear about people's reactions. That's really crap. It's great news and no doubt they will come round to the idea with time.

How is everyone feeling? Anyone else notice they're a bit leaky down below? I had 2 moments today where I could feel a small trickle and pants were a bit wet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,954 ✭✭✭Betsie_xr3i

Yep Hazel and will be like that forever more ☺only joking haha x

Hope everyone is well, I have my 1st scan today woohoo can't wait x

Enjoy your scan. They're so lovely. I'd love to have a little peak at my baby every day if I could.

Results of the Harmony test came through today and its all looking well. I also found out that we're having a little boy this time around.
I thought I was really chilled out about the test but when I finished talking to the lady in the Beacon I cried. It's very lovely to know that things are looking good.
I was convinced all along that this little one was a boy and it turns out I was right. That made me cry too, partly because my husband was really hoping for a boy this time ( not that he doesn't adore our daughter and that he wouldn't have been happy to have a healthy girl the second time out either)- just to have one of each I guess.
He is going through a hard time at the moment too, work is dreadful for him and his dad is quite sick and we've had tough 12 months too so I'm dying for him to get home from work and I can give the good news.
I'm also happy that this baby is a boy as it allows out little girl to still be the best girl in the ( well ours at least) world. No contest on that front for her. I'm sure there will be lots of competition for hugs and cuddles later on though.

Glad the test went well for you and congratulations on your little boy xx xx

Penny ... A little boy, that's fantastic news. It's amazing that you know already so early :-)

It's pretty surreal knowing already I have to admit. When they check the bloods in the Harmony test it's your DNA they're checking and can check the gender then too. We'd have found out at the anomaly scan anyway so thought no harm in knowing earlier.
It's 99% accurate for gender testing, imagine if it turns out to be a girl after all that :-)

Ps I totally forgot say that's great news that the test went well also :-)

We will also find out the gender, I love to know. I'm 99% certain it's another boy as I feel EXACTLY the same as I did when pregnant with my little boy :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Digs

Congrats on the scans girls and wow penny can't believe you can find the gender out already, congrats!!

I'm the same shivers, convinced I'm having another girl as I'm feeling the exact same, sick, break out of spots, all the old wives tales!

My husband is one of those men who is destined to be surrounded by women, henpecked! Secretly we'd be so excited for her to have a little sister but healthy baby is all that matters, time will tell!

im the very same girls i am convinced this will be girl no. 3 the girls are taking over so we are even the dog and the cat are girls haha, i secretly would love a little boy though x

Had my booking in appointment with holles street this morning, so strange to be back! Staff were fantastic as usual.

Met with Dr Keane, had previously thought I'd go with the midwives but got such a nice vibe off him Im going to stick with him, he did a scan, showed me the spine and said it was very well developed and he could rule out spina bifida and otherwise the baby looked great, good strong heartbeat :)

In and out so quickly, it was great.

Hope everyone else is well, since Saturday I feel like a fog has lifted and I'm coming out the other side, no vomiting since Friday!

Congratulations on the positive scan. Its so lovely to see your baby, I think we shold have one every morning just to say hi.;)

I got my letter for the anomoly scan for Feb 1st. I'll be 21 weeks then - well officially- I could well end up being 22 or 23 given the last few scans and gestational age they showed.

I started to feel normal / less wrecked this day last week. At first I thought it was just a one day wonder but it has lasted a week so happy days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Digs

Thanks penny, yeah We're on cloud nine. I agree a peak every morning would be just lovely. So surreal seeking baby on the screen.

He dated me at 13 weeks today, a bit behind my original date and ahead of the date of early scan. He's sticking with 13 weeks and a due date of 14th June.

My anomaly is booked for the 28th January, feels like ages away to see baba again but Christmas should break things up nicely.

Am delighted I'm feeling better too and that it seems to be lasting. It dragged on until about 24 weeks last time which was annoying. We are going to see Santa in Rathwood this Saturday and stay in Mount Woseley for the night so I plan on throughly enjoying it!

We have the same due date:D
Enjoy Rathwood and most importantly your stay in Mount Woseley.

I'm tired after my trip to the UK at the weekend and a baby that is growing no fewer than 2 molars and they are making themselves felt big time. I have booked Thursday off as an annual leave day. Baby still going to child minders so I will kick back and take it easy on Thursday. Can't wait for it. :)

It really is Shivers, happy out this week :)

Made my mincemeat tonight in prep for Christmas baking, I've definitely been missing that little thing called energy!!

I'm feeling exhausted this last week or two but work has been mental so it could just be that. I napped from 7-9pm last night and was out cold again by 1030pm.

Had GP appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time on his doppler. So relieved. Back in hospital next week. Do they scan you every appointment in the Coombe out of curiosity?

No sign of a bump yet but I'm on the heavier side as is, so my flabby tummy is disguising it if it's there. Definitely just look plump not pregnant. I don't mind as haven't really told people yet and don't want to tell work just yet.

So good to hear of everyone's scans. Here's hoping the next few months fly by without a hitch.

I was semi private in the Coombe with my daughter and they did scan at each vist in the clinic but they didn't give any pictures and the machines weren't the greatest at giving clear images. Still got to see her though which was lovely.
I'm fully private this time around and get a good scan and picture each time.

It still doesn't feel real to me. If you told me it was all in my head I'd believe you. I can't wait to have a proper bump and feel movement. It must be crazy. Hopefully we'll start to feel movement in another couple of weeks.

Hi ladies had my 12 week scan and all looking good with baby. It was waving it's hand and moving around loads on the scan. Measuring well also. Penny Dreadful we also decided to go with the Harmony test. I'm over 35 and decided I would prefer to get it done just in case. We have decided not to find out the sex though. It's our first baby so we don't mind either way and I think I need the surprise to get me to the end stage!

While the baby is doing well I'm not so good. I have lots nearly 10 pounds and I'm already slim so now my BMI is underweight. I'm still throwing up every morning but most days it's only once so I suppose that's an improvement on a few weeks ago but still hard for me! My consultant is excellent and is going to keep an eye on me but she thinks it should balance out. I'm back for another check/up scan at 16 weeks then the big scan at 21 weeks.

Digs I wish the 'fun' second trimester would hurry up and start as I still have no energy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Digs

I'm revelling in it appledrop, didn't get the same treatment on the first baby so I was a bit worried it would drag on but bam since 12w4days no more vomits, just like that! I'm like a different person this week :) hopefully it'll level out for you too shortly.

Hazelnut this is my second time round and it's still as surreal as the first time, always find it hard to get my head round the fact there's a baby in there!

    Hi girls

I'm due my second on 9th June ... we live just north of Belfast so will be attending the Royal Maternity Hospital again.

We already have a daughter who was born in Nov 2014, so all being well we'll have our hands full in 6 months time.

    Hope you're all keeping well.

Cogratulations. We'll be in similar situations. My little girl is 15 months old now and #2 is officially due on June 14th.
I was always convinced I'd go early again (was 4 weeks early last time) and whole I'm officially only 14 weeks today I'm measuring in at 14+6 at the scan and check up I had today. I've been measuring ahead consistently.

Ugh I've been having bad stomach ligament pain ! Even rang the midwives today coz I was so worried. I never had it as bad as this with my lb. Although I had a mad busy morning in work with a lot of moving and lifting so that didn't help :-(

Hope everyone is keeping well xx

I've been getting it worse this time round too shivers. Really really intense pain. Mind yourself and don't go too mad with the lifting!

Sorry I didn't reply to you ladies. Work was mental, I was away for a few days and I can't multiquote off my phone.

I hope that everyone is keeping well and it has been great to hear how everyone is getting on.
Do you mean that you won't get to see a midwife/doctor and hace a scan until you're 17+ weeks along?
    shivers27 wrote: »
I think almost everyone does combined care unless very high risk pregnancy. I'm pretty sure it's booking appointment in hospital at 12 weeks with midwife review and scan then GP at 16, hosp at 20, GP 24 and so on.

What hospital are you attending ?

Yes that was the case with my first pregnancy in 2009/2010. I wasn't called to the antenatal clinic until I was 17weeks. On my second pregnancy in 2013 I wasn't called until 20ish weeks. I saw the GP at 12 weeks, 16 weeks and then alternated after the first booking appointment.

I was and am attending Kilkenny Antenatal. However this time things have changed. I had my booking appt earlier on today (at 13+1 weeks) - history, bloods, scan etc., the whole shebang. It went really well I even have a provisional date for the birth. :D BUT I am not back with the antenatal clinic until 28weeks. I have to follow up with my G.P every four weeks until then. It seems that things have changed and more of the responsibility has been put off onto the G.P.

I have to say that I was very nervous going in this time. The whole debate regarding calling for a referendum over the eigth amendment of the consitution. The voices and stories of the men and women affected by fatal foetal abnormalities need to be heard but sometimes it brings tears to my eyes and tightens the heartstrings. Plus so many of you have been affected by miscarriage. I look at myself and say that the odds are against me having three healthy pregnancies in a row. ANYWAY thankfully everything is ok.

As for my little Drama Diva outburst a few weeks ago . My dates were spot on, there is only one baby in there, there is no sign of gestational diabetes so in other words I am just turning into a big pregnant blob

Quinine tonic water (the yellow label schwepps) is great for reducing cramps. Try 200mls once or twice per day. Unfortunately it is without the gin :(

I'm having it worse this time around too. You think it would be easier, surely the ligaments stretch easier with subsequent pregnancies.

Christmas holidays rock. I'm in work today, parental leave tomorrow and Monday. Work on Tuesday and then thats it until January 5th. I cannot wait!

My nausea is back. Felt really nauseated on Tuesday evening. The smell of food, any food at all was really bothering me. Went to bed and then when I tried to have breakfast yesterday (boring old porridge) I threw it up again.
Had to pull the car over this morning on the way to work to throw up again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 351 ✭✭Hazelnut Button

Oh Penny that sounds awful. I hate puking. I still feel nauseous on occasion but on the whole I'm feeling ok. Still wrecked tired in the evenings and latest symptom is really intense headaches at the base of my skull.

Had appointment with consultant in hospital yday and he was really lovely and put my mind at ease. Scan was so much clearer this time. Could see the baby moving it's legs and arms around and he even gave me a little picture to keep. It's the best one yet.

When do you have to start sleeping on your side? I'm finding it really hard. Keep waking up on my back.

Think that's a personal one hazelnut. I know ideally you're supposed to sleep on your left side but realistically I toss and turn so much I may start on my left but end up where I end up.... I won't lose sleep over it (pardon the pun!). Some people seem to be more particular about it.

In the third trimester sleep can get pretty uncomfortable so trying to stick religiously to one position would be pure torture!

Think that's a personal one hazelnut. I know ideally you're supposed to sleep on your left side but realistically I toss and turn so much I may start on my left but end up where I end up.... I won't lose sleep over it (pardon the pun!). Some people seem to be more particular about it.

I hear ya. I toss and turn a lot too but feel like I'm sleeping more on my back than usual.I definitely find left side is my least favourite. Typical. I'll have to invest in a pregnancy pillow and see if it helps.

Its funny how some things are harder for some people than others. My left side has always been my favourite and pregnant or not I tend to sleep on that side anyway.
When I go to bed I lie on my back with a heated cushion underneath as it helps a lot if I'm sore. I turn on my side for sleeping though.
Those pregnancy cushions are the business. I had one last time and it was great with helping any pelvic discomfort and then when the bump got bigger it helped to support it at night too.

I'm hoping Santa brings me a new pillow for Christmas! My first one has served me well but has seen better days!!

Feeling little flutters and tickles the last few days, so much earlier than first time round. Definitely the best part of pregnancy :)

All set for Christmas in my camp and looking forward to putting the feet up. Great excitement here as my little one is really buying into Santa this year, don't know who's more excited, us, her or her grandparents!!

Hope everyone else is well :)
