While I can appreciate your undeniable enthusiasm for these plates, I can't stand the telephone number length of it.

I could swap it fro a ZV I guess..... Eireplates did a good job of reducing the impact with the shape of the 0s

You would get ZV428XX if you changed.

I'd stick with the 79 plates, good looking plate, suits the car. There is an unhealthy obsession with number plates in this country. I often wonder is it evident anywhere else?

    well wear

    well wear

Same in the UK, Switzerland, AUS, NZ, etc etc etc
It's the detail which counts ;)

Nice car. Personally I would have opted for the large-digit (period appropriate) plates - red (rear) and white (front). I have seen '83MH15001' made up in large digits by Eireplates.

I like the simple plates, the Transit wears similar ones.

Looks ok in this instance, not the worst by any means, but there are lads who finish off an otherwise excellent restoration with a terrible plate that clearly doesn't suit the car.

It's like topping a wedding cake with a turd.

I agree, my pet hate is modern number series like mine) on red rear plates and white fronts. Just looks wrong, but some people love them

On the off chance you might know whats the next number in line in Meath? Have I any way of finding this out? I'm still undecided on an 85 MH plate or ZV style

If you go for the 'Year' plate it will be - '85 MH 15nnn',
if you go for a 'ZV' plate it will be - 'ZV nnnnn'

Understand that, just wondering on the ZV numbers in Meath, ie what kind of range I'm in, ie 65000 onwards or higher. Ie is there a way to find out the last issued ZV number in Meath?

    Currently favouring 85 MH 1500x

    The next numbers for Meath are;

    85mh15015 and zv60702

I thought the unnaturally high number thing changed back last year?

Which font did you order? Is that the 80mm Vintage?

I saw this plate on another website, it doesn't look good in my opinion.

I would have gone for something like this myself...

^^^^ Personally I'd prefer the red plate...its 'period correct'.

Except for the number of digits.

Yes, the plate is period correct...not the registration .

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,105 ✭✭✭hi5

The problem is there is so much registration there you can hardly see the plate.

That is a ridiculous amount of digits. Red plate looks good though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

Even with two number 'ones' it's a tight squeeze.

The digits are part of a subsidy for SIMI. Basically imported cars stand out a mile away as they have so many digits on their reg plate. Stupidity, as Ireland has had no motor industry since Ford shuttered in Cork. Retailing, servicing and modification is not an industry.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭savagethegoat

nothing to do with SIMI. There was a computer glitch but it's sorted now for imports first reg'd in 2011 onwards

I heard that too, but I wonder was it a - albeit temporary - sop to SIMI?!
