And more the three leaders have pitted for disc braked bikes :)

Just watching it now. They're all on cantilevers! And there was me thinking my bike was old hat.

Why, so, because? Based on bike showrooms I thought discs were the norm now. Are they still in the maybe pile, as with road racing?

Weight difference and they don't really brake that much compared to the rest of us, so cantilevers aren't a disadvantage.

Good piece on the Phoenix park cross race back in 1981 , some great pics. I never knew Roche was a former national cx champion.

Video is well worth a watch too, there's some lad racing with a rear rack and mudguards!

A cyclocross time trial. Someone should arrange that.

Someone should lay down the Segment on Strava, then we can all star it, so it'll be loaded as a Strava Live Segment on the Garmins.
We could allow say one week for everyone to ride it and set a time, then use the Segment filters on Strava for Boards.ie club and This Week as the timeframe to decide the victor.

Well maybe not these weeks with the storms a coming.

Maybe Phoenix Park, some easy MTB trails on Ticknock or a bridleway around Glencullen

Cyclocross GPS recordings are very unreliable as there are usually tight turns and wooded sections - due to low and unpredictable GPS accuracy.

My GPS lap times in Rathfarnham were off by up to half a minute (afaik) compared to chip timing.

There is one way to do a TT and using Strava is not part of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Alek

    CX TT: a single loop?

Or A->B section? It would be easier to ninja-organize in the Park.

I agree but if it was a runner, it would have to be a point to point over a decent distance to minimise GPS issues.

Its a great lap with a bit of everything incl a nice steps runup. Times would benefit from a Top Gear style conditions report (wet lap, dry lap etc) as there's a big difference. Hard to rule out shortcuts though!

Weather looks to be ok for tomorrow so it should be great days racing in Castletownroche, Cork. Zippy and Squeak coming down too, might be interesting battle to watch if in the area.

This is the starting list for the Cyclocross Championships.
