Would have definitely fancied Cuadrado in that formation, how come he was shipped out on loan Gav?

Most accounts suggest Conte wanted to keep him but Cuadrado wanted to go back to italy. I dont think he ever wanted to leave Fiorentina anyway in the first place.

Its impossible to keep a player whos hell bent on leaving, even if hes a better player than Kenedy, Moses and offers a different option to willian and pedro.

So apparently Hazard had a pop at Jose during an interview whilst away with the international team. Claims they are giving everything for Conte, hopefully it was another case of "lost in translation". If not then he really should be ashamed of himself and any other player in the same boat.

    http://europe.newsweek.com/sport-jose-mourinho-eden-hazard-496329?rm=eu

Also claims Conte is giving them confidence as he understands players as he was a player, it does seem likely there was a serious clash there but he really should leave it stirring the s... benefits nobody in the end.

‘I know that sometimes he played like a central midfielder,’ Conte told Chelsea TV. ‘But I prefer, and in my mind, the idea is to utilise him in the right position. For me, he is a centre back.'

Well, ToL has dashed my hopes!

Both Madrid clubs transfer ban was upheld, so Costa won't be going home for at least 2 years.

Also means Real can't poach Hazard next season either, unless they go all out for him in January. (€250m or no dice)

The ban starts in January I thought and covers 2 windows, so its January and summer 2017 and they can enter the market again in January 2018?

It will effect Atletico more I feel

How is our potential ban coming along not heard much about that in a while.

Especially when they're sitting on the £100M+ asset with no way of replacing him

Was that over signing a few young fellas or Traore?

Havent heard anything so I'm assuming nothing is being done......that we know of anyway. :o

Big question, does Luiz or Alonso start at the weekend, or both?

I cant see Conte switching formations just yet so I reckon we'll continue with the 4-1-4-1 type formation and eventually he'll introduce a 3-4-1-2 style formation once he gets more time with the players outside of international breaks.

They can buy players just not register them, so in theory they could buy Costa or Hazard but theyed not be able to play either until the ban is up.

Barca done the same with Turan and instead of loaning him kept him training from August until January. :o

So Butch Wilkin's reckons Luiz is a penalty waiting to happen

    http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelseas-34m-david-luiz-is-a-penalty-waiting-to-happen-and-antonio-contes-centreback-plans-are-wrong-a3340806.html

Pretty rich from him considering his brother Graham Wilkins was a specialist in giving away penalties and own goals, glass houses and stones and all that. Bad enough that Ivan has been for the past two seasons (prior to which he was excellent) he is still orders of magnitude better than Graham Wilkins who really did fill us with dread on the terrace at the Shed End.

Luiz isnt as bad as people make him out to be, hes prone to more mistakes given the game he tries to play but as far as ball playing CBs go hes ligt years ahead of anyone in the game currently.

Look at Stones, hes lauded by nearly everyone and finds himself at City and under Pep because of his ability and he cant hold a candle to Luizs ability in that regard. I reckon Luiz MK II wont be as rash as he was before, hes also going to have one of the best coving CMs in the league in fornt of him.

I'm cautiosly optimistic Luiz will be better this time around, not that he was a failure a few years back by any stretch of the imagination but once Neville said he was like a Playstation player he as never going to come back from that and the media were on his case already but that sent it into over drive.

Hes certainly a better CB than Cahill anyway.

As far as ball playing CB's go, Hummels is on another level compared to Luiz I think. Everything Luiz can do he can do better and with less mistakes, bar scoring the odd screamer of a free kick.

I'd disagree, both are excellent passers of the ball but Luiz is better ball carrier and dribbler, IMO.

Although as a better defender, Hummels is head and shoulders above Luiz thats not even up for debate. :o

A ball playing CB isnt the be all to end all either, as long as a CB is comfortable on the ball and most are now a days, they should be able to play a few passes. JT is excellent off either foot and has a good range of passes in his locker. Kosclieny isnt bad on the ball either, hes well capable, Rio for years, before the injuries was anopther good CB to play around a bit.

The media fawn over Stones like hes the next Baresi, not quiet yet anyway.

Should be given our start but you never know.

4 wins going into a tough period of 5/6 games would be very welcome anyway.

    swansea press conf

Antonio Conte reports that today was the first training with all the players. He says all the players are in good condition

the signings of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso have improved the squad.
the two players must work to fit in with the way the team plays and show him they deserve to play

When asked about the player's position on the pitch, Conte confirms he signed David Luiz because he needed a centre-back

on the Manchester derby: 'We know that is a great match but we must only be focused on our game which will be tough
he will watch the Manchester derby on TV if possible. He says it is too early to have expectations of that match.

he does not like to talk about favourites for the title and last season showeed that favourites don't always win

using David Luiz in a back-three is a possibility, but he sees the Chelsea squad suited to 3-4-3 more than 3-5-2.

every player until end of career can improve. He says at 29, David Luiz is at a fantastic age to become one of the best.

Can probably rule out either starting so on Sunday.

although a 3-4-3 would be very intersting for theis team.

    Tbo
    Cahill JT Luiz
    Azp Kante Oscar Alonso
    Willian Costa Hazard

I like the look of that.

i don't think a back 3 can exist with JT and cahill with the ground they'd have to cover , i'd say he's waiting for zouma to come back

Oh ya, I cant see us switching anytime soon. Cahill is more mobile than JT but JT organises the defence much, much better as well as being a better defender. So any back line has to feature JT and if he wants to go to a back 3, it'll be JT flanked by Luiz and Zouma either side if we down that route.

It'll take time to work on though and probably need an "easier" game to bed in too.

Mike Phelan wins MOTM and Sterling wins POTM.

I agree with one and the other is wrong, figure out which one. :pac:

Looks like the Metro and the Standard were wrong in proclaiming Hazard as POTM a few days ago.

When he won the POTY award he didnt once win the POTM award, I'd take another season like that TBH.

At least its coming back to bite him in the arse today.

    Small comfort though. :(

Looking at the Manchester derby... we dodged a bullet with John Stones.

He's got all the worst parts of David Luiz (decision making, lapses in concentration, positioning) and he's inferior on the ball and as a leader.

Tammy the goal machine Abraham scores again for Bristol City.

Izzy Brown also opened the scoring for Rotherham in the same game.

Chelsea team v Swansea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta; Kante; Willian, Oscar, Matic, Hazard; Diego Costa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,563 ✭✭✭✭peteeeed

Chelsea subs today: Begovic, David Luiz, Alonso, Fabregas, Moses, Pedro, Batshuayi.

Swansea lining up with a 3-5-2.

That's the second former Serie A coach who has countered us with a 3-5-2. Mazzari did the same for Watford.

Kante completely dominating the midfield again. Must have 6-7 interceptions already.

Dropping in between the centre-halves to start moves as well.

    What a signing.

He's like a hybrid of Essien, Makelele and Mikel.

Unfortunately he got Mikel's shooting ability rather than Bison's. :pac:

Yeah. Amat and Fernandes kicking the shirts out of Costa with no consequences. Ref is weak.

Get the geezer on to get some retribution on them.

Costa at the start of last season and the start of this one are like two different players. If he stays in this form we'll win alot of games.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭LightningBlue

Joke that Amat is still on

How on earth aren't we winning this.
