Pension AVC for previous years

Possibly a stupid question, but can you make an AVC after the end of a tax year and associate it to that tax year? e.g. Returns for 2014 are due by end of this month. Would any pension AVC have had to be made by 31/12/2014 or can it happen after that date?

You can pay into it by 12/11/15 (the extended ros filing date) and claim the tax relief on your 2014 return

Great thanks! Any idea where I can find something stating this online? I got the following back from Revenue the other day

Dear XXXX,
As the payment was not paid in 2014 and was paid on 14/09/2015 you may claim same on your return for 2015.

Just a quick note to update if anyone comes across this as their own question. I called and explained situation - Revenue guy was very apologetic and told me I was mis-informed by his colleague. They're sorting it out for me this week.
