If we qualify automatically on Sunday against Poland and we beat France in the rugby it should be a national holiday on Monday! :D:D

Seems a little unfair as Hungary have played more games.... Maybe their last one is against a 6th seed and wont count and all ours will.

Still to catch them we'd have to win and if we win, then we don't need to catch them:p

If we had only taken the home game against Scotland by the scruff of the neck and not been so cautious we would be through now.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here or try to reverse history on the back of a cracking result tonight.

Trapattoni guided us through the 2010 World Cup campaign and 2012 European Championships campaign losing only 1 home game in groups that contained Italy and Russia (2 if you include the France game in the playoffs). That's a four year period of competitive action.

It went sour at the end and it was time for a change, but there's no need to try and belittle his achievements with us.

But never (Italy aside, maybe) did we ever look a threat to the bigger teams at home, regardless of the results. Russia and France at home we were diabolical. That's the point I'm making. Poland and Germany came here and got bullied off the pitch and we deserved the results we got against them. That's the point I'm making.

Teams will start to dread coming to Lansdowne Road again. This wasn't the case towards the end of Trap's era.

Actually you know what I am being harsh on Trap, Staunton has to take the blame as well.

If Greece beat hungry then Faroe Islands are last so hungry would have 4 points taken off them.

How far up in the rankings will we now go?

    20 places? More?

We beat #2 so we should be #2, right? Right?!

If we had only taken the home game against Scotland by the scruff of the neck and not been so cautious we would be through now.

If only Poland, Georgia or Germany had hung on for a minute later we would be out.

Fůcking huge credit to that team.. Fought like warriors.. it wasnt pretty but boy did they give heart and soul and everything else and some... Christy i though played great Hendrick also and Randolph coming on was like swapping a clapped out 1998 Saab for a brand new Merc...

Fair play to the team , i didn't see that coming at half time. Randolph seems to have an awful long, accurate kick and it paid off.

Christie and Randolph should be regulars. Randy was so cool and got his angles right...no messing.

Can Coleman be pushed up or do a Dinny Irwin and play leftback?

Well tonight I watched with my father. A German man who hasn't spoken German at home in 20+ years is walking around refusing to speak English. We must've hurt them a little.

Hopefully we'll finish second. but the playoff draw....

    Turkey or Netherlands
    Bosnia and Herzegovina or Isreal
    Ukraine
    Slovenia
    Hungary or Romania
    Sweden
    Norway or Croatia
    Denmark or Albania

Either Ukraine or Hungary/Romania will qualify automatically

The best night Ireland have had in a long, long time. Too long. The players tonight deserved the win absolutely. If I'm to say anything negative, it's that the Irish team had a generous helping of luck with Germany's lack of ability to finish. The sitters they missed would have a neutral scratching their heads, but the luck the Irish team had in this is reflective of both the Irish defensive effort and the German team's apparent complacency throughout the match, as the panel pointed out.

The team still has to go to Poland and do the business, and the team will be riding a serious wave of belief after the win tonight, so if they play with the kind of resolve they've shown, then anything is possible, but not if Poland take chances like the ones that were afforded to Germany, because I don't think fate will be so kind to Ireland twice. But at least the team is guaranteed a playoff, but what a sickener it would be if the team not only failed to get the required result v. Poland, but also failed, then, to do the stuff in the playoffs. After what the team has shown tonight, it would be a waste of an opportunity to make the team a truly competitive force in international football.

    But for tonight, we revel!

Sounds like me watching Inter only in Italian. My wife makes me shout at the TV in Italian when I watch Inter so that if our little son repeats what I said at school the teacher can't understand him lol. Surprisingly it works.

I just hope Mrs. Rossi isn't his teacher next year.

That doesn't look easy. You'd want to avoiding a good few names on that list.

Is it open draw or is it seeded?
