Let's say someone who's renting signs up for a 1 year contract. Meanwhile has to move out of the property to a different address? Would be a penalty charged for that? And what happens if they move abroad so there's no chance for the service transfer? Thank you!

You would have to pay off the final bill (submit a meter reading and keep a record of it) and close the account, never assume someone will remove your name of the account on your behalf. You would be hit with the early termination fee which varies by provider.

Thank you! Yes, I meant closing the account. Just I wondering is it different scenario or there is no exception to early termination fee? Must be paid in  all cases if account closed early?

    Hi padyjoe,

    Thanks for your message.

Unless you signed up to Electric Ireland with a fixed term contract then there is no contract exit fee should you close your account.

However, if you did sign up to such a contract and move property without registering with Electric Ireland under the same price plan then the fee, which is €50 per product, would apply. This fee would also apply if you switch to a different supplier within the contract period.

We hope that helps. If you have any other questions please let us know.

    Thanks,
    Brige

Thank you Brige! I have always wondered what happens in this case as the tenant's life not always easy and unplanned moving out happens.
