Think my wife is getting pissed off with the amount of toothbrushes I bring back from the Emirates lounge :) I'm still gold with them and silver with Qatar (mistake by our travel dep to send me to NZ by Qatar...) so need to make my mind up which I'll stick with!

I would got Emirates every time but it depends where you're based. I have only done one flight to Hong Kong with Qatar business at the last lions tour and it was terrible. Old seats, not completely flat so I kept sliding down to the bottom. It may have had something to do with the pJ's they had given me.

Anyway, its a problem I dont have anymore but I would go EY.

You can only take one small bag which can fit under the seat in front of you.

Does this include duty free purchases?

I hope I'm in the right area.

My partner and 20 month old child are flying out of Dublin to England soon. I'm wondering how far I can go with them through the airport. It would be nice to have the extra hand until they head for boarding. If I'm not traveling is the check in desk as far as I can go?

    Thanks.

You have to scan a boarding pass to get in to the security check, so that's as far as you'll get.

In theory, if you found a really cheap flight within a couple of hours of theirs, and bought a ticket etc. there's nothing stopping you going through security with them.

I'd have thought you'd struggle to get back through departures though, it's basically a one-way system.

You could pretend you missed your flight I suppose. There has to be a way for people to leave.

My only experience was when our flight from Gatwick was cancelled due to storm Emma, and we were held for hours before we were "de-somethinged" (can't for the life of me remember what the term was) - basically we weren't allowed leave until we were officially escorted out of the secure area.

Change of mind, meeting cancelled, not feeling well etc. They won't mind. You'll likely need to prove you didn't purchase duty free.

You would just go to the arrivals floor

Until recently it was possible to just head for the exits directly in T1 as there were crossing inbound and outbound passengers at the 200 gates - that should have been removed when the arrivals corridors were built over the gates. Many a poster here used it to get cheap cameras in Dixons!

I know it's way too early to know for sure, but I have a flight this coming Friday with Norwegian to Stockholm. Its at 10am. Any idea if this flight should still go ahead or do they have a history of cancelling them?

Do you mean just in general or is this in relation to the storm/weather due ?

Storm/weather due. Was curious if they usually cancel or just delay.

Not sure about the flight, but i suggest that you do some research about getting downtown from Arlanda, its bloody expensive unless you put some effort into it.

I can upgrade to Business on Emirates from Dubai to Dublin for €522. Worth it? It's the daytime flight arriving in Dublin around 8PM.

So I took up the opportunity anyway. The seat is a dream. I loved the angled viewing for comfort, the tablet on the ICE system, the power sockets available, the bedding with proper duvet and pillow.

Business Class was only about half full, so nobody in the aisle seat next to my window seat. This was a result as I don't think I would have liked to have to climb over or upset someone directly next to me.

There was a lovely Irish lady looking after me, Marie, who did an excellent job. I loved the experience, the personal touches, the food. Strange though as my initial choice for main course was not available even though the cabin was half filled. I had different items of the menu at different stages of the flight whenever I wanted which was nice.

I was able to sleep on the plane which I would never be able. At 6 feet plus, I get too scrunched up in economy to sleep. The lack of a foot-well is noticeable though, so had to bring my knees to be comfortable.

First off the plane, priority baggage meant that I was leaving the airport less than 10 mins after arriving at the gate. Now that is great service.

Overall of the €500 odd quid it was well worth it to me. But I would stop short of paying under normal circumstances.

I'm flying with EI to Munich at 06:50 from Dublin in a few weeks. I haven't taken an early morning flight from T2 in years so am wondering what the security queue times are usually like in the morning.

Would it be ok to arrive at 05:30? I can buy fast track if necessary. I won't be checking bags and will be going straight to the gate after security. The gate for that flight is usually gate 335 (the new South Gates) which I haven't been to before.

Also if I don't check-in online, can I select a "choice" seat for free at the check-in kiosk?

    Thank you.

Is that gate one of those in the shed you need to be bussed to? I regularly fly at 6.50 approx, always get there around 5.15, 5.30 fine with fast track.

    Yes, that's it.

If you can be sure it's gate 335 would you be just as well to check in in T1?

The walkway to them gates is just after security in T1. Security in T2 only opens at 4AM too.

I have a lufthansa flight to Frankfurt (LH983) in three weeks and it's saying a 05:05 departure. Have lufthansa changed their morning times?

Winter timetable kicks in on the weekend the clock change in October. So yes!

Used those gates recently, it was a breeze and the shuttle is fast and easy and very regular, no waiting around, the gate area has plenty of seating and you can grab coffee or food there to, it was much better than I expected

I've never seen a flight leave Dub so early, from what I remember T1 secuirty only opens at 4.30am? Or does anyone know if it's earlier? :o

Given that boarding will be starting at 04:30 or so, it will have to be open earlier!

LH operated at 05:15 I think before?

They have 5 flights a day now to and from Frankfurt. The new 08:35 departure is at a slightly more civilised time!!

For both operational reasons and minimising disruption. If Dublin was only marginally longer than Shannon, then it would have been worth landing there. Keep in mind I'm outlining reasons why this typically happens. On the subject of Cork, it would have not been much closer and has a shorter runway possibly ruling it out from a heavy 787 loaded with fuel to cross the Atlantic.

hi I'm flying to Thailand with Aer Lingus/Air china

I'm flying with AerLingus out of Shannon and with Airchina from London Heathrow and from Beijing to Chiang Mai

I'm confused regarding if AerLingus will check my bag the entire way or not

on the AerLingus site it does list Air china alright does this mean that I can check my bag in Shannon the whole way to Thailand?

    https://www.aerlingus.com/localized/en/modals/baggage-information.html

also another question when I go to AerLingus online checkin it lists my Airchina flights but say that I need to check at the airport does this mean I can checkin the air china flights at Shannon?

Your bag will be checked through to Thailand

For various reasons, visa and passport checks you should present yourself at a staffed check in desk

Aer Lingus is normally very good with onward boarding cards, so if you can make sure you have a seat selected on the Air China flights so Aer Lingus can issue the boarding card

If the Air China boarding card isn't issued in Shannon, collect it at Heathrow or try online check in with Air China
