For the love of god, people...
he didn't rape him, he waterboarded him...

I must say, the hysterical best-film-ever reaction to this movie confirms that the modern movie-goer is easily pleased...

Condescending much? Who has even said that anyway?

I'd be interested to know of a recent thriller you feel has better cinematography, pacing, sound design and acting too. Not my absolute favorite of the year but it's so rock solid and grippingl that I can't argue with anyone having it as their best.

Who said that? I know I said I thought it was the best movie I saw this year, if you're referring to my post I also pointed out that media and art is subjective, everyone has their own opinions, likes and dislikes. It doesn't have to be an Oscar nonination or a Sundance winner to be appreciated.

Also, regarding your first point, that scene is very much up to interpretation. I.e; why no water down the drain etc.

I think he was being waterboarded though. The sounds you hear when the camera cuts away is the sound of him having his breathing passages covered beforehand, I think. Although the person I saw it with seemed to think there was something sexual happening too. I don't think so though.

But the start of the interrogation was very crotch-in-face. Maybe the bottle was to give the fellas brother the impression hecwas going to be water boarded.

I don't see how being waterboarded would be preferable though or why they'd want to make him think he was being waterboarded. Waterboarding is a fairly serious form of torture. I think the crotch in the face stuff was just intimidation.

Saw it this evening! That was a damn good film!

    The soundtrack is intense!

It's low and heavy on the bass in parts so Earphones probably a good idea or turning your speakers up a bit.

I thought the music in the movie was pretty good alright. Wasn't as impressed by the movie itself though. I thought Blount's character was a bit too naive and idealistic to be believable. I also thought her FBI partner didn't really add anything to the movie.
The scene where she charges back into the bank to start making arrests or building a case was where the movie lost me.

I liked Benico Del Toro's character but overall I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, maybe I'm missing something but I'm not getting all the love for this movie.

I thought it was a decent movie that had some great scenes, but the great scenes didn't make it a great movie. It was definitely missing something for me too.

Decent movie 7.5/10 , some great scenes and cinematography.
The plot and characters could have done with some fine tuning and changes,

I did NOT like the ending at all, the solo ninja rambo mission, there was about a hundred things that could have gone wrong there, These big cartel bosses have ex-mexico special forces as bodyguards ,
would have been better of they had shown a group of them go in on
    a CIA black op
they could have also developed the Big boss more during movie as well.
Make the ending a bit more climatic and dramatic

E Blunts character was unlikeabale and poorly written , moaning, nagging, whining, undisciplined
they should have shown her get corrupted by it all and become as dirty as the Spooks or else go the other way and rat them out for their black op and have consequences for that.
She was established as badass FBI agent at start next volunteers for Secret task force
wink wink but then becomes a bag of wind. If they wanted a "token" fed why did they not just get a yesman . good actor

the Jon Bernthal arc was confusing i had to read wiki afterwards to find out what happened
with the band maybe i was not paying attention. lol

Wikipedia lists the CIA as allies of the drug cartels LOL

I really wanted this to be brilliant, and three fine superb performances from blunt, del toro and brolin!

but the plot loses it for me, first half is excellent but then goes awry especially with the one man mission thing feels completely out of whack with the early parts

My sentiments too. A very enjoyable film with some great scenes and performances but let down by a pretty average script and outlandish plot.

Nonethless certainly much more to like than dislike about the film.

Why didn't they just send a drone strike to the big boss?
    And Blunt was too idealistic.

don't get this film either, since when did any American care about keeping to legal rules in their wars?

When it is occuring on their borders and in their border states. Certain areas of northern Mexico are no-go areas while a hundred miles to the west tourists tan their asses on beaches. Happened here when Belfast was a warzone and we were peacefully pissed and on the way to Euro 88.

And the phrase "any American" implies you think 318,000,000 people have the same opinion about something. Right now in the US that only occurs in Donald Trump's hair.

A bit too obvious? There would be bits of missile left over?

Using a non-American gave a certain amount of deniability.

Constantly. They worry about their own rules, not necessarily other people's rules or 'decent' behaviour.

Watched this last night. Just brilliant, it's high octane edge of your seat stuff throughout. The opening scene really grabs your attention and just goes on from there. The score was excellent and really set the tone but del toro stole the show. 9/10 for me. I think this and fury road where my favourite movies of 2015
