Hi everyone is it the right time to put tulips in ground now or wait for another two weeks?

Absolutely no problem putting them in now, forecast is for cool and mostly overcast weather for the next week at least. Perfect bulb planting weather!

Monty Don on Gardeners World last night, said another month til time for tulips to go in? no idea why now now! I would say go for it if conditions are good.

I planted tulips for the first time last year.

Put 30 of them in on Nov 22 during a fairly wet spell of weather and they all grew.

It can still get quite warm in the UK even at this time of year, here..not so likely. I'm certain there won't be a problem planting them at this time in Ireland.

The reason for not planting tulips until November is so they don't shoot too early and get damaged by hard frosts.

Make sure you plant them at least 6 inches deep. Prevents crows from digging them up and also ensures that the tulips flower for years without producing lots of tiny new bulbs. I plant mine 9 to 12 inches and have wonderful blooms for many years.

The reason Monty Don advises putting tulips in so late is to avoid tulip fire.
