Cars with start/stop engines

I believe in some (PSA?) cars, the alternator is reversed to work as a starter for stop/start. This would obviously reduce wear on the starter, but it has implications for the battery in that it may need to be replaced somewhat earlier and with an appropriate type.

I usually turn-off the stop start facility.
I reckon it wears out the Starter motor & with that in mind I reckon this repair would cost more compared to whatever fuel is saved. I live in Dublin.

    Any opinions on this ?

I just dont like it, so Ive got into the routine of switching it off as soon as I start the engine. I do like the new handbrake though.

You can disable it completely if you want, any chip tuning facility should be able to do it.
