Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hi all , I would like to get 4 -5 hens for eggs.

I live in a town with a small back garden. The hens could have the run of the garden.
what size coup would be suitable ?
Also will the hens lay anywhere or only in the coup ?
What do they need to have in the coup?

As long as your garden perimiter is secure?
The coop for 5 hens, the 'standard' regular coop that you see for sale would be fine - just make sure it has a few roosting bars.
In the coop I use thick pads of newspapers, whip the lot out and in to the compost bin - keeps them warm in the winter, and makes for easy to clean out the coop. You could use straw if you have access to it, or shredded paper
The hens should lay in the coop - nesting boxes lined with a bit of shredded newspaper or straw - but they CAN choose to lay out in a hidden spot - total nuisance, but if you have a small garden not a big deal - under a hedge/shrub/anywhere "secret". If the coop is cosy, and dark and nice nest boxes, they should lay there.
Make sure you lock the door of your coop every night - urban foxes will take a hen in a flash
