You can build or modify as you please here in Cork.
The planning office will rubber stamp any build as long as the contributions are paid to CCC.
The facade, height and impact on the surrounding area is unimportant!!

Agree with your sentiments totally. Recently took part in the submission of observations to a planning application & the subsequent board planala appeal.
Got the impression that anything goes now in Cork, once the Council gets its contributions.
The numerous developments of apartment being approved, many with little or no facilities or parking will in time become tenement accommodation.

Out of interest, what was your complaint?

There's a new coffee shop on carey's Lane too.
    Rather unimaginatively called Rebel Coffee.
    Anyone try it?

Best of luck to these people opening up these businesses. Cafes are opening and later closing within a couple of years are a frequent sight in the city.
Only a small few survive. My buddy lost his shirt on one of these, hopefully not the case with these new ventures. Will def give them a try though!

Also on Douglas Street, an out new outlet selling pierogi.

    Best of luck to both.

Don't know of any, unless it's new.
Do you mean the one that used to be near Langford row a year or two ago?

    ......

Great to see though....we all prefer to support the local ones over the big boys. Tough time to be in business now though.

Stopped by today - he's open selling crepes & coffee whilst he finishes fitting out the premises. €9 for two, with Nutella. Didn't opt for coffee etc. They sure hit the spot, and happy to support him in his new venture as opposed to Gino's or something around the corner. Be prepared to queue for a little bit since it's just himself and two burners. Definitely would go back when he's fully up and running and has the deli going.

Right Price Tiles have taken over Laura Ashley, formerly the VW dealership, at the entrance to the Turners Cross Retail Park (Woodies etc). Looks like they're ready to open......

Jysk are planning to open a new store in Eastgate Retail Park in Little Island.

    https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/arid-40204703.html

This could see the retail park fully occupied for the first time since it opened.

They're not too bad, got one of two bits from their Naas store. Takes a good while to slap the stuff together but it's sturdy stuff once done. Their outdoor stuff looks ok for the price also.

Hopefully it's better than the Youghal store. Absolutely tiny out there, basically just as much stock as possible thrown into the old Lidl building.
Should be a good bit bigger in Little Island.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,481 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

JSYK is okay but you may have to click and collect stock.
Also, you have to get it out of you head that's it's anything like IKEA.

We had to get a few bits, so drove out to the Youghal shop. Hadn't looked at it on Google Maps nor had we seen pictures of the unit. Expected it to be something like Ikea. Needless to say, we were decidedly disappointed.

I know people who went to it knowing it was the former Lidl store and they expected it to be as big as IKEA.

Ha! Well, in our defence we were clueless as to what it used to be...! :pac:

The stock was also very limited. The bits we wanted were all out & had to be ordered in. The system was also a little confusing - I think you had to write down the number of the item, go to the till and ask for it, then went off to get it etc... All a bit involved. Maybe a larger unit will be a little more efficient.

I've been to the Jysk in Portlaoise twice. Wasn't overly mad about their stuff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,036 ✭✭✭✭rob316

When it opened down Youghal, I was thinking it must be fairly big that they didn't get somewhere closer to the City. Went down and it was absolutely Tiny. It'll be bigger in little island atleast.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,744 ✭✭✭deRanged

I imagine Youghal was a very cheap way to test the market. Cheap rent/rates and easy access to a main road. I wonder will it stay open once the unit in Little Island is up and running?

It didn't help that the papers were touting it as being the same as IKEA rather than just another chain selling cheap furniture and bits.
