Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hoolahan not starting isn't the worst thing. The team probably will have a grittier midfield against a home Polish team, keep the game in sight and contested and then go for it the last 30-40 minutes with Wes on. I'd rather bring him then bring him off with 20 min to go and the team under pressure.

Whelan, there goes any chance of a result.

Harsh on Christie also, but Coleman coming back is understandable.

I think it's a team that can get the right result. Come on, Ireland.

Hoolahan just doesn't start away games, it's hardly a surprise. Plus, he's probably not fully fit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Very Bored

I don't think Poland are that good to be honest. Also, with them at one stage having looked qualified, the pressure and nerves will be felt on their side. I feel a 2-1 win for Ireland coming on.

Anyone know if it's on the rte player online??

I think Poland will hit us with everything from the start so we need to expect that and keep our concentration and discipline.
We don't want to concede an early goal.

With Ireland winning in the Rugby I would the country's sporting luck allocation has been used up for the day, but then there was nothing lucky about the win in the Rugby today. Impressive performance.

I really hope George Hamilton doesn't go and jinx us tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭edgecutter

Hopefully we go out there and have a go. Nothing to lose tonight and all to gain.

The Polish manager's dismissing Ireland at the start of the campaign saying that we wouldn't be in it should be used as a motivation. COYBIG

Disappointing to see Hoolahan left out.

This is going to be a backs against the wall job for 70 mins, then go for it in the last 20.

Whelan back in is the wrong decision, he offers nothing.

Id love to be wrong but it doesnt look like a team set up to get a win. Unless Wes is carrying a niggle him not playing is a ****ing joke... who is gonna create in that time... Whelan ?

Why would you change anything from the German match?!

Anyone else get the sinking feeling we'll be seeing Keane trotting on about the 70 minute mark?

Loosing Brady and Hoolahan from midfield for Whelan and McClean is extremely negative.

I think we're gonna miss Hoolahan , happy to see Long start and have Coleman back .

this is it... lets go for it and shell shock them.. few long balls up in the first 10 mins

Is Hoolahan on the bench at least? Would be nice to have the option of a relatively fresh Wes to inject some energy into the game later on. Obviously, you want him on at the start, but it would be better than nothing.

Dunphy is not listening to what MON said today about Wez "Better than Pele" Hoolohan for his own campaign.

totally agree.... why the fook is he on... he doesnt tackle, hasnt the legs and cant pass.... Wes would have been the best choice, takes the pressure off the defense when he runs with the balll

Dunphy is a clown. Hoolahan clearly can't play 2 games so close to one another & was honest to say he couldn't start. No problem & hopefully he can make an impact of the bench.
