Hi all,

To make a long story short I am hoping to build a new PC (Quiet MicroATX) for the Pascal GPU on release. I was wondering if I should start buying parts now or simply leave post GPU release.

The system will be for gaming, programming, VR and maybe for video editing.

The budget is around 2K but I can stretch to 2.5K

Better to buy it all when you need it. No point running down time on warranties when you're not even going to be using the parts.

So I realise I need a windows PC but I want to keep in mind Pascal when it comes out. I need a second opinion on this build:

I'd go for a Skylake or Haswell PC, no need in a hexcore i7

Why not get a less powerful card like a 970, when you know you'll be upgrading it soon. The 970 will be easier sold given Ireland's second hand market.

What's the PC for?

Gaming, programming (MultiCore and GPGPU), VR and maybe for video editing.
980Ti since we don't know the release date or performance of pascal maybe even wait for a well refined version.

I am thinking of changing:
Motherboard - ASRock Fatal1ty X99M Killer/3.1
Case - Fractual Design Define Mini
OS: None since I have windows 8 (I believe upgrade to 10 is still free)

I'd stick with western digital or seagate for HDD's. Apart from that it looks fine.

What monitor are you planning on using this with? A 980ti is wasted on 1080p 60hz. Really you want a 2560x1440 144hz to do it justice.

That's fair enough but he's still going to be using a monitor 90%+ of the time.

He'd be better off reshuffling his budget to include a beastly 1440p 144hz monitor if he doesn't have one already or at the very least an overclockable Qnix 2710.

I currently have a 27" 1080P but I plan to upgrade later to an higher resolution monitor.

Went over budget by a mile but blame xmas.
The question now is what would be the best monitor to go with the setup?

Are you planing to buy off amazon as that will cost you alot more than the likes of scan,ocuk or European etailers imo?
Also your motherboard is quad channel so it would be best to get 4x4gb sticks intstead of 2x8gb.

Bought the parts already from amazon should be delivered in few weeks. I went with the 2x8 so I have room for later upgrade.
Total in Euro is E2600.

I'd drop the cooler for an air one, AFAIK liquid CPU coolers are just alright.

Will be a good bit cheaper to source your parts from the EU
