Part L Compliance

    Hi all,
We have just been told that we are not meeting Part L Compliance and are now in a hurry to find a solution this week. I am wondering if anyone can offer some advice in trying to meet Part L Compliance. We have been told to install a solar panel on our house along with Daikan Air to Water Heat Pump, MHRV and our insulation. I think this is excessive and feel that we can meet Part L Compliance in an easier, more cost effective way. Our ECP is 0.443 at moment but needs to be less than 0.4.
    Our insulation is as follows:

Pitched Roof – Insulated on Ceiling Main Roof - 400mm Fibre Insulation
Pitched Roof – Insulated on Ceiling Study Roof - 400mm Fibre Insulation
Pitched Roof – Insulated on Rafter Kingspan K7 and K18 62.5mm

Walls: 300mm Cavity 120mm Kooltherm K8 Partial Cavity Fill
Walls: 300mm Cavity Stone Clad - 120mm Kooltherm K8 Partial Cavity Fill

We have one chimney and one flu line for wood burning stove.
Can anyone shed some light on how we can meet regulations without adding solar panel?
    Thanks in advance!

    Improve air tightness.
    Use triple glazing.
    Improve themal bridging Y factor.

One needs your DEAP calcs to offer better suggestions.

very strange that an assessor would prescribe your heating system to you, rather than you telling them what heating system you want... especially if they are pushing one particular product (Daiken is not the best product on the market)

but as SB says above, its impossible for anyone here to give better advice with seeing the xml file.

Your elemental insulations seem ok... im assuming your going for triple glazed anyway.

have you by any chance got a very large open plan living space?

    HI sydthebeat,
Yes we do have quite a large open place living dining kitchen area. We had chosen the Daikan air to water heat pump ourselves and our assessor was recommending on installing solar panels with that. We have triple glazed windows also. We have since found out that we will meet Part L compliance so need not install solar panels. Thanks for your replies and apologies for my delay in responding!

I've had serious problems getting certain client specified heat pumps across the line.

Have you some leeway with regards to your heat pump choice? Ask your assessor to examine some other options.

Also if you have a fairly standard house shape there may be some scope for improvement if your assessor is using the default thermal bridging value.
