How to limit number of users of a folder/file on windows 8.1

    Hi,

    How can you limit the number of simultaneous users of a file or folder on Windows 8.1.
    We are ending up with a lot of conflicted copies.
    All I want is that if someone tries to open a document that is already in use a little pop up says something like... "Doc 123 is currently being used please try later".

    I am nearly sure I could easily do it on XP in the sharing options but cant figure it out in on Windows 8.

    Ive tried googling it but cant find an answer.
