Hi all ! I have recently bought a really old s/s hammer gun . Its made by Trulock Brothers and bears the serial number 13 . Anybody have any information about this company ? I think they went out of business around 1900.

Very intresting in there from "Glen of Imall" on what the nr 13 means...It is its caliber, not a serial number

roof marks look like Birmingham black powder proof between 1868 and 1875. The '13' means it is a 13 bore barrel. Fore end is held by a captive wedge system which was a left over from muzzle loaders. This means it is an early breech loader which only really came into being with a modern style cartridge in 1861. There was no Irish proof house so impossible to say if made in Ireland. As Red Dot said it is likely that it was made in Birmingham and sold in Dublin, though there were still a lot of guns being made in Ireland at the time. Hope that is of some help.

Not allowed to post pics ! The gun is in fairly good condition and fires 12 g cartridges no problem but has a strong recoil . No 13 is the serial number on my licence but interesting to learn that it is a 13 bore .

Just make sure you only use 21/2 inch or 65mm cartridges with a 30grm max load.
Do NOT use 70mm cartridges 😱😱

It's not unusual on older guns to see any number at all printed on the gun to be quoted as the serial number on the Licence.
