Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Slight variation on the traditional best xi ever, what is the best xi you have ever seen actually play?

And for an added bit of flavour, who is the best sports player you've ever seen (doesn't have to be in soccer).

    Mine:

    1. Neville Southall
    2. Javier Zanetti
    3. Paolo Maldini
    4. Walter Samuel
    5. Franco Baresi
    6. Roy Keane
    7. Esteban Cambiasso
    8. Henrik Larsson
    9. Ian Rush
    10. Francesco Totti
    11. Ryan Giggs

I wanted to put Del Piero in but I think I have to go with Giggs.

    Best sports person: Henry Shefflin.

Care to add your team or do you just want to critique mine?

Also, it would perhaps depend on prior bias as to which one you said was better.

    Feyenoord - Ajax in 83/84

Feyenoord with Cruijff, Gullit, Houtman, Ivan Nielsen (one of the best defenders i have ever seen)
Ajax with Koeman, Van Basten, Rijkaard, Vanenburg, Mollby, Jesper Olsen.

    Was decent

Also saw PSV with Romario, Ronaldo, Van Nistlerooij.
Monaco with a certain Wenger in charge and Weah up front.

And oh yes.... European super cup Feyenoord - Real Madrid in 2002.
There were a couple of players at Real who might have been able to do a bit of a job for Feyenoord as well.....

    Casillas
    Ramos--Ferdinand--Carvalho--Evra
    Keane---Fabregas
    Kaka
    Ozil
    Ronaldo
    van Nistelrooy

van Persie, van der Sar, Rooney, Alonso unlucky to miss out

    Neville
    Terry
    Hyppia
    Riise

    Mascherano

    Alonso--- Keane

    Gerrard

    Torres
    Suarez

    Van Der Sar
    Puyol
    Ferdinand
    vidic
    Evra
    Xavi
    Iniesta
    Scholes
    Messi
    Ronaldo
    Aguero

Subs- Lahm, Cassilas,Kroos, David Villa, Rooney, Zanetti, Ronaldinho

@BaldyConscience, Shame you're too young to remember Giuseppe Meazza, you could really say you'd seen them all then.

@Skylinehead, You're not doing badly for a guy who claims to not have seen many big games...

Watching a single Real Madrid game in 2011 helps a lot :pac:

    1. Neur
    2. Cafu
    3. Paolo Maldini
    4. Cannavaro
    5. Franco Baresi
    6.Iniesta
    7. Xavi
    8. Zidane
    9. Maradonna
    10. Messi
    11. Ronaldo (Portugese)

Midfield is a bit unbalanced but with that defence it doesn't matter and they'd score bucket loads.
Been watching soccer since the 1980s and struggle to think of EPL players who would have got in.

    Schmeichal
    Neville-Stam--Ferdinand--Evra
    Keane---Scholes----
    Muller----Figo
    Ronaldo
    Larsson

Not much outside of United though some big international names have been seen in recent years, none really better than the United lads

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,672 ✭✭✭elefant

    Schmeichel

    Irwin
    Pique
    Ramos
    Alba

    Pirlo
    Iniesta
    Scholes

    Robben
    Neymar
    Messi

Not the most balanced team now mind you :pac: I'd still fancy them to beat most teams though :)

Leaving out Beckham, Silva, Xavi and Busquets there probably the most difficult.

    Vidic

    GK: Buffon

    DR: Thuram
    DC: Cannavaro
    DC: McGrath
    DL: Zambrotta

    MR: Messi
    MC: Modric
    MC: Pirlo
    ML: Ronaldinhio

    S: Klose
    S: Ibrahimovic

It's a mixture of players I've seen in the flesh, who are excellent, but may not have been great in the game I saw, (Ibrahimovic for example) and players who just blew me away on the night (Modric for example).

    van der Sar

    Alves

    Hyypia
    Abidal

    Alonso
    Sandro
    Ronaldo
    Iniesta

    van Nistelrooy
    Del Piero

It would be an interesting second XI going beyond the big names I'd say.
