Diffie-Hellman appears to have been broken by the 10 billion + USD suspected NSA budget – at least up to 2,048 bit key size.
The author of this article* believes that Diffie-Hillman of at least 3,072 b keys is still strong. Which means one really needs to use 4,096 bits to communicate privately over the net for emails which contain company confidential data, especially on new products, or unreleased financial results of listed companies.

*“If indeed the NSA is using the weak-DH attack, they gained a huge amount of foreign intelligence data with it but almost no intelligence about terrorism. Businesses and governments use IPsec to protect their traffic back to their home institutions, jihadis likely don’t.” Which appears to be the real agenda of most “intelligence agencies”.

What mass murders has the NSA or any other similar agency prevented? Probably none.
