Changing Shotgun for Rifle

Guys

I an buying a new CZ 455 17HMR and trading in my shotgun. I know the rifle is a new application but what is the process to notify the guards that I no longer own the shotgun

FCA2 and cancel the license.

Get a receipt from the dealer to say he's taken the shot gun into stock and attach it to a completed FCA2 form. Hand that to the local guard and he'll cancel the licence from your name.

To save you reapplying for the rifle you could just sub the shotgun licence to the new rifle if your current licence is still valid.

Not always a given so be careful before you submit a substitution as it may be refused under the "not a like for like" rule.

Maybe subbing a shotgun to a .308 but I've never known anyone refused (including myself) subbing a shotgun to say a .22 or vise versa.

I do, myself included in that, hence the reason i said to be careful before trying the sub. I was told, as were the others, that although both are unrestricted a like for like cannot be done due to one being a shotgun and the other a rifle.

You must of got an exceptionally awkward one or else I've gotten very relaxed ones.
I've changed shotgun to rifle twice without issue.

As said it's not just me. Others i know and while some are in my own district more are not. Count yourself among the lucky ones so.

So I managed to get to speak with the Firearms Officer this morning.

She told me that I can do a substitution from the shotgun to the rifle as long as it was not a change of use, which is good news to me as I only renewed the licence last September.

Thats great news.

Must have a chat with my FO. IF others are getting it so readily then it should be available across the board.

Cass as you know across the board does not exist in firearms licencing in Ireland ðŸ˜

I'm in the process of a substitution myself, shotgun for shotgun, and funny enough that was commented on as well- the fact the new gun was for the same use. Didn't think much of it until now.

The only other issue I had was proof of gun club membership even though I had NARGC card and my other firearms are licensed using the gun club details.

Are we seeing the need for club conformation as discussed in other threads? and the importance of relevant permissions either gun club, range or private lands in relation to specific firearms and justification.
