    ^^^ PM sent...

so as I was saying earlier the car will be on Irish plates soon.... which would suit her best, ZV or 86 LS xxxxx?

    .

I'd have to say '86 plate as the ZV looks too old to be on what still looks a modern enough car. Plus the ZV plates have stupidly long numbers now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 820 ✭✭✭kop77

I'd love to know what the next 86 LS number is,

Says you... you'll find out in May!!

normally prefer zv on cars but not on this one.

I'd nearly be looking at CW - "Cosworth". Or is that a cardinal sin in your neck of the woods. :)

Either way definitely go for the "86 XX ...." format. Looks way better on that.

I thought the choice was done away with, it was ZV only.

86 LS 190 2.3 or 190 16 never issued !!! if you are gonna keep it, would be worth it

You'd have a hell of a wait to get one of those numbers. :pac:

86 LS 185 is the nearest to 86 LS 190 I found on motorcheck.ie, so just import 4 more 1986 cars, pay €200 each VRT, then flog them off later to get the number.

the original wheel I think was a 15" 15 hole rim but I'm on the look out for them in 16" which came on the EVO1 model,

.............use R129 SL wheels. Same design as original but 16". Ive seen a few with them on it and its a real subtle upgrade. Plenty show up on ebay.de

I got the car cleared today for 200 Euro but was surprised to see the range of reg numbers for Laois are 86 LS 6000 onwards,

seemingly the range was re-set in 2011 for cars, Laois got 86-LS-6000 onwards, Offaly got 86-OY-7000 onwards so other counties might have a similar format,

Would you not prefer ZV alternative?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭ht9zni1gs28crp

The ZV is okay for pre 80's cars IMHO. The 80's was the decade we saw the format change to what we know it as today. Probably closer to original than a ZV with 7 digits after it.

Also to the great unwashed I think its a nicer clue for them to the cars age.....

    Hi all...

a while back I reluctantly put my valver up on DoneDeal for €15,000. I had a few calls but decided to take down the advert the following day (my wife went nuts when I told her I was going to sell it!!:pac:)

anyway..., I'm still thinking of selling it and wondering if Merlin auctions would be my best bet!

I've worked on this car over the last 8 years so there is a lot of sentimental value there so I just want to drop it off and hopefully collect a cheque instead of having people coming to my house and me spending an hour going through all the work I've done!!

any thoughts would be appreciated, especially on the price of €15k

Get a full pdf together with all work done, photos etc. Email this to any prospective buyer. Tell them to have a look through it and get back to you after. There are serious buyers out there, but there's a load of chatters and messers.

Tell any callers that you won't be letting anybody take a test drive unless you know for a fact that they've €15,000 in cash deposited somewhere.

I'd put it up for sale on a site like carsireland, ignore adverts.ie completely. Donedeal will have a fair few idiots ringing as well, but it's the biggest site here.

Also take it along to the next cars and coffee meet, if there's one near you.

Put it up on any owners club sites here. Also, you should advertise it in the UK, on owners sites as well as a couple of the good classic car sites. Mention that it's originally a UK car (which I presume it is based on the reg).

I'd personally set up an email account and phone number just for selling the car and possibly get professional photos taken in a studio for a small fee.

    Best of luck with it.

Get rid of those wheels they are nice but in a classic original is best and make it more of a q car.

Put up more pix! :) Agree about the wheels though - the 190e should really come with the chunky 5 spoke originals to my mind (the 15 hole and 8 hole ones are okay).

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,449 ✭✭✭goochy

5 spoke originals?? Should be 15 hole

I like the wheels, and I'm usually a stickler for original stuff!

190's don't usually float my boat but that is a beautiful example. :)

A stunning car, so sad u are letting it go.
Advertise it in the UK as has to one of the best going.

    Im gutted for you

Forget about merlins or any of them classic car auctions. The way they treat the cars is shocking. It would have to be a special car to make people travel over from the uk. But stick it on pistonheads. Ive sold a few cars to uk buyers mainly jap imports that were hard to come by over there. Cracking looking car by the way. These are sure to be a 30k car in the very near future. I understand circumstances change and might need to free up funds but if you can at all keep it. Great investment to have. My brother had an e30 m3 and sold it a few years back for 19k which at the time was a great price but he probably would get 40/50 for it now.

The Uk is a funny market and specialist cars at high values are few, history owners who restored the car are all a factor,As we all know the condition of a restoration is the big one and if its worth the big money it will reach it.Have it valued by the Mercedes Club, some of the best examples of w201 are members cars. Many auction houses in the UK would give an idea and charge 5% of the sale price which is not the worst and people see what they are buying in the flesh. It is hard to sell a car in UK from Ireland,I know ive tried it a few times, but the auction is a good route or a specialist dealear to sell it on your behalf is an option. It will need an MOT and back on UK plates to achieve best price, without you are at nothing!!!.Thats a good car and will sell and I hope you achieve a price that you are happy with.

Sick of saying it - must be wheels . If I passed it on road i would assume it's a boyracer who has blinged up a 190
