Notification sounds hit and miss

The phone is fully updated to whatever the latest iOS 9.... Is.

    The notification sounds are unreliable.

Calls made through carrier the audio is consistent. Ok there.

Calls made through what'sapp sometimes make a sound, sometimes don't. The visual alert consistent.

Messages also hit or miss on the audio.

What'sapp notifications. Turned off group notifications within the app but they still go through and are disruptive. Can't figure this out.

The phone is fine. In setting both sounds and notifications all look ok.

What can be done? Thank you in advance.

Same with mine. It's driving me nuts.
Hopefully next update will solve it.

I've been having those problems since iOS 8.

Exactly the same problem since installing iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. I tend to be missing audible and vibrate alerts from the likes of Facebook or WhatsApp. I usually only know if I happen to see the phone light up when I get a message. Really annoying.

I've had this problem since iOS 8 with messages. I have the phone right beside me and find I've missed a message. Thankfully it's quite infrequent.

I have an issue with notifications too.
On my work iphone 6, no issues with notifications however on my new iphone 6s+, notifications aren't working for the majority of apps.

I've tried disabling/ re-enabling notifications, deleting the apps etc but no joy.
The exact same apps are producing notifications on the 6 (just generic news apps).

Anyone else still suffering from this?

Frustrating that it hasn't been fixed.

Have Apple identified or acknowledged this, e.g with a specific defect number?
