College losing a thesis

My boyfriend was in one of the ITs and due to traumatising personal circumstances, he never handed in his thesis to get his honours degree. The college were aware and sympathetic to his situation.
Two years later he contacted them to ask if he could hand it in as an external student. They were agreeable. It cost €500 and he submitted it in July. He confirmed with the exams office that his results would be issued with the rest of the repeats in September, last month.
They never arrived and after much chasing, he discovered that they lost the thesis. They found it quite quickly and responded to his requests for information by telling him that his results would be released soon.
A few days ago, the acting head of school told him that the results will come when they come and to stop emailing essentially. They have said the examinations board have fulfilled their contractual hours and there's nothing that can be done. He said they *might* have results for him in January.
I can't find any info online about similar situations. Does anyone have any advice? Can they do this? He's contacted the SU but not gotten a response.

It sounds like the college have been very accommodating to your boyfriend by accepting the thesis the way they did.

The next exam board is most likely in January, so I would hold out until then to find out the results.

Yeah, sounds like they f'ed up, but they're stuck within the remit of the system.

That being said, if you call them by phone and get the right person, and stay polite/positive they may make an exception - worth a shot.

Especially if there is any need for your BF right now, like career blocking or something.

Just remember, though, it is extremely unlikely that they will break their own processes and issue results out of the regular exam board cycle.

The results simply cannot be approved mid-semester, it has to wait until an exam board in January.
