    Hi all,
I'm EU girl willing to pursue third level education in Dublin.
One of my interests is Environmental Science.
If I want to take it at TCD I have to apply to common science course, correct? When am i supposed to take Environmental Science?
I have to take modules that are adequate to Environmental Science. Any suggestions for Junior Freshman?
    This is enough for starters.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, you will have to apply to Science (TR071) through the CAO online application. For the first two years you will take biology/chemistry/geology/math modules (whatever you choose), and can later specialise in Environmental Science in 3rd and 4th year.

Not sure whether there are any prerequisites for it that you have to take in the first 2 years, but I don't think so. If you are interested in the subject you will naturally be taking biology/geology modules in the freshman years anyway

According to the course information on the TCD site, you have to take Biology in both the first two years. They list the specific module codes.

    Thanks!
I'm aware of first and second year prerequisites for environmental science.
Not sure how and when to apply for that course? Initially on CAO application, upon collage entry or after second year?
What I don't understand is if any of 400 Science students can apply to that course in third year?
    Confused one

What I understand, from talking to some of the instructors for Environmental Science, is that if you want to graduate with an Environmental Science degree is:

    1. You apply to the general entry Science degree.

    2. For the first two years, you take general science modules, while making sure you get the prerequisites for any final degree you might want (in this case, the Biology modules in both years).

    3. For the beginning of the third year, you declare preferences for what final degree path you want to take; whether or not you get your first choice depends on having taken the prerequisites, presumably your grades to this point, and whether or not there's a lot of competition for that final degree (there seems to be a quota with the most popular final degrees; I was told Zoology is routinely too-popular, for example).

    4. For the third and fourth year, you take modules specific to your final degree choice.

So in case I didn't make it clear enough, you apply to TR071 general-entry Science on the CAO, and you apply for Environmental Science directly to TCD after second year. Not all the Science students can/will apply to the course for third year, because prerequisites; anyone who took Biology enough theoretically could though AFAIK.

    All clear! Appreciate it!
So how popular Environmental science is? I need to know what are my chances.
Should I take this course at DCU as there is Environmental Health starting from the first year?
    Thx
