The 4G++ system will provide up to 450 Mbits/sec – typically offering 233 Mbits/sec. Three frequency bands providing 60 MHz of spectrum are being used. Monaco gets very concentrated demand for mobile services especially during large events such as le Grand Prix, not to mention numerous conventions, yacht shows etc. France’s Orange subscribers can roam in Monaco using their existing Orange-FR SIM cards at no extra cost for data or voice. They just find the data connections much faster in MC than it is back home.

The company plans to install 5G in February 2018. While the newer Samsung phones support 4G+, users will have to wait for the next round of Samsung Galaxy products to support 4G++. No doubt Apple iPhone will get around to 4G++ in a few years time.

Meanwhile many other (dozy/procrastinative) mobile networks around Europe are wasting money installing 4G or 4G+ - a technology that will need updating in a year or two time, and in the interim provide a slower service to customers. Irish telcos and cable TV operators have wasted millions going from dial-up to crappy xDSL to less crappy xDSL and are slowly moving to fibre. Cable operators wasted millions on making co-ax work for them. The cheapest and most reliable solution would have been to use fibre from day one.

Monaco Telecom also offer 1GB internet and phone for EUR 49.90 – including unlimited calls to Monegasque and French landlines and mobiles. For an additional EUR 15.00 / month, you can get unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines in the rest of Europe.
