Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Changing cat litter

Do you think this might upset the cats 'routine'?
Should we stick to the same litter?

Not at all: cats are clean animals and as long as there is someplace for them to pee in, they will use it.

Great, I will give another type a go.
    Thanks for the quick reply.

Shouldn't bother them too much, but any sudden changes can upset a cat and make them not want to go (we changed to a slightly different version of the same litter and my cat jumped out of the tray on seeing it was a slightly different shape :pac:) so move over slowly, fill the tray with what you usually use with just a sprinkle of the new stuff, keep adding more of the new and less of the old over a few tray changes and you should be changed in no time!

    Thanks for the replies.
How often do you empty litter tray completely?
I 'clean' it twice a day and change it every fortnight, though I think I could get longer out of it.

It depends on how often your cat visits the tray and how many cats you have.
I use a clumping litter, so I clean only where necessary, and it's a compostable litter.
I clean the tray at least twice a day, sometimes, if I have time, four times a day. I change and, above all, wash the tray about every two weeks.

I scoop twice a day, top-up as necessary, dump/clean/refill every four weeks. I have two litter trays and clean them out on different weeks. This seems to work well for my boys.

When we had cats using litter trays (for many, many years) the routine was always once daily, to scoop out the clumps and "top up". This worked fine as long as there was an adequately deep layer to start with.

Empty and wash the tray, and replace with all clean litter, maybe a couple of times a month. We've always fed our cats just once a day, as well.
All have been happy, affectionate and enjoyed robust good health.
