Read this thread and got curious so got on the phone to Bamboo House. A fine feed for €6!! The spice bag, I can confirm....is good tack :)

Got the Spicebag in the Lemon tree, chips were really greasy and couldnt finish them. The chicken was of the breaded variety, cut up into strips. Was dry and chewy and it wasnt spicy at all, no extra chili in the bag and about 4 pieces of carrot and onion. Partner got Beef in blackbean sauce and the sauce tasted like it was from a powder mix. Wouldnt recommend this place at all.

Havent tried the one from Bamboo house, will have to give it a try.

I was up in phoenix house and all I could see was salt and chilli chips.

Ah exsqueeze me, I actually saw it on the menu online one night but had read about it in AH before that I think. But indeed this thread propelled me to drive to said place and purchase bag as to which I am most grateful and full :p

Might try one out €5.50 here as well. I'm tempted.
There is anecdotal evidence that the spice bag (or ‘spicy bag’ or even ‘hot bag’ in some places) originated in Bagenalstown, Carlow, despite the assumption that it is a Dublin invention.

Further evidence of spice bags in “deepest Carlow” (Tullow) has also reached us.

New world Chinese created them bagenalstown county Carlow.

So it seems that the Spicy Bag is not a Dublin invented phenomena after all.

Man that was spicy. Chips, chicken strips, onions, stripped green and red peppers some other niceties as well. It was nice and hot that's for sure. Would put steel hairs on your chest. Very tasty over-all and glad I tried it. Was €5.50 from Riverside takeaway rivervalley swords North Co.Dublin.

The spices were very unusual and nice I have to say.

A drizzle of curry sauce goes great with the spice bag, I don't think I'd like a dry bag.

It would be super spicy then with added curry sauce.
