Hi Gummy Bears I was wondering if your presentation is this week? Did they contact you late in the evening, as they may be contacting more people tomorrow?

    Hey

I got word of the second round interview for BW late this evening - presentations are next week!

    Hi lawyeredup2015,

Likewise. Though haven't heard anything from BW either and saw someone on this thread had an interview.

The CD was only the 16th though, hopefully there will be some communication this week.

    It feels like longer....

Another non PFO process then...getting really tired of firms doing this. As bad as PFOs are, I much rather know where I stand than false hope.

    And rant over!

Have a second round interview for BW on Tuesday. Anyone have any idea roughly how many are through to this round?

Totally in agreement, I know they are busy but come on it takes 5 secs so send a PFO

This may be a stupid question but what question in an interview any of you did stumped you or had you drawing a blank?

Not that it causes me to draw a blank exactly but I'm never fond of the question "Why do you want to work for us?" focusing in on that company in particular.. I never know what they really want to hear.

Generally, I found, in regard to the "Why do you want to work for us?" question the interviewers are trying to see if you identify with the firm's 'working culture' and if you would be a good fit as a future colleague.

I always approach this type of question in a two-step structured manner:

    1. Explain what you believe the 'working culture' of the firm is (this usually can be easily found on their website or trainee recruitment brochures).
    2. Outline how you personally identify with this 'working culture', giving examples of your skills and experiences to back up this statement.

In my experience of the 2015 Milkrounds their seemed to be a focus on buzz words like 'Teamwork' and 'Collaboration'.

Can't believe I've received 9 rejections :( this month has been soul destroying to say the least ! High 2.1 LLB, Masters and legal experience .. Terrified I'll do fe1s and end up in the same situation this time next year :(

Huge congrats to everyone who got good news this time round :)

I was in the exact same boat until Monday night, when I was offered a trainee position with a non Big 6 firm. Honestly, keep at it, its so soul destroying but after an undergrad, Masters, national/international experiences and 7 FE-1s later, its finally paid off!!

You'll get there, just keeping knocking on doors.

Congrats laurasteph! It must feel great at long last. A nice Xmas present!
    The struggle is indeed hard.

If anyone on here hears back from Byrne Wallace regarding offers on the back of the second round - I just want out of this misery for this year!
    I'd really appreciate it
    Thanks!😊

    Hi all,

Great thread! Just a quick question. Where do you all go to to look for jobs? I am ploughing through jobs.ie and the law society website, but there don't seem to be anything going. I've a high 2:1 LLB and I've completed 7 Fe1's. I am applying for the odd paralegal/ legal executive position but with no luck. I have a good CV and I have some legal experience behind me. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places for job opportunities and if anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Well done to all of those who have obtained training contracts!

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

    Tertius van Eeden.

    Hey,

I was in your boat last year and I came to Belfast, they can't fill all the paralegal jobs they have. TLT, Carson McDowells, Arthur Cox, Tughans, Axiom, A&L, Allen & Overy, Baker McKenzie, Kennedy's, C&H Jefferson and Harbert Smith are always recruiting. Some of the firms like TLT, Carsons and C&H don't have offices in the south but are well respected in the UK and you'll get great hands on fee earner work.

I was getting no traineeship interviews before I came here and then I had a couple this year so the experience you get really is worth it. Any questions feel free to just drop me a line.

Anyone know if BW has made offers yet? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,255 ✭✭✭✭The_Minister

As a barrister, this is an interesting read - I thought there was a shortage of people to fill places this year.

I was actually asked a few months by a small firm if I knew anyone coming up (filled since, but I've never been asked before).

Congratulations rw87! I can't believe that after two rounds including a presentation that they didn't send out PFOs to those who were unsuccessful!

Thanks for letting us know though and we'll done again!

Thanks for you're reply. I suppose I'll need to get a bit more experience so. The North is a bit far for me as I have a young family and wouldn't like to be too far away from them. I'll get my head down for my last FE1 and in the meantime I'll just keep snooping around and pray I get lucky!

Out of interest what are salaries for the top 5 firms these days? Are some firms known to pay more than others?
