I've recommended a local carpenter on here before, I'll pm his number too.

If it's the same person as recommended by Gaspode above (by the name of Doug R) then i can NOT recommend.

It is difficult enough finding people locally who can do work properly and without messing up one's home. Which is one of the reasons for asking for recommendations in the first place.

It is equally difficult finding a tradesman who will not mess you around.

This person came over, had a look, measured etc. and said he would would get back to me with a cost.

Prior to that he suggested i looked at ikea with the intention of stringing something together from ikea pieces.

Great intentions but what a load of bullocks.

He then sends a message, instead of a quotation stating that he is:
"stuck on another job given lots of extra work won't have time before Christmas too much to do".

Wastes my time in terms of me ensuring i am at home at the appropriate time to meet, me explaining my requirements, expecting a subsequent quotation and then to be presented with zero.
No offer of: "i can do it at xyz time, after Christmas etc."

Perhaps too much of a job to handle.

I will now have to go through the process again or just have to do it myself over the holiday period.

This is why i ask for recommendations. So that people can contribute experiences. And that leads to better knowledge, better recommendations and better trades people in Dublin 15.

As of now, it doesn't seem like there is very much available.

On another note, however, i did place a request on tradesmen.ie for an electrician to do some specialised work.

First guy was nice enough and seemed experienced enough but did not have any hands-on experience with the equipment i was having installed.

Second guy was young enough, had loads of experience, e ven with the brand but albeit not on the specific models of the quipment i was installing.

Nevertheless i went with him and he simply whizzed through things.

He advised me where I went wrong in ordering kit, why it wouldn't work and what i needed.

Fabulous, and that's what one wants.

Get us more of those kinds of tradesmen in D15.

Oh, shoot!! It turns out he's in D12 instead!
But that's just a short drive down the M50.

Really sorry to hear that, he worked out fine for me. Hang on to the details for the guy who sorted you out, they might be of use to others here.
