I'm in the same boat. Bought an electric shaver for €100 yesterday and had to use AddressPal. Thankfully I checked their site before I ordered though. You'd think they would have emailed everyone about changing their address?

Out for delivery all day too.

I sent a message to the an post facebook. I'll wait and see what they say. I'll splatter the negativity on twitter soon and then they usually take action. Let me know how yours is going or if it changes please! I was baffled to see the address change!!! ! :( I am also baffled by amazon emailing me about the signature and just not know what to do.

NOTE: I had a good idea. Click on "provide delivery instructions and then put the nieghbor with a name of "unit4 - address pal". That way, if they can't deliver to unit 5, they will look at the delivery advice and go to unit 4.

Delivered and says "Parcel was handed to a receptionist". This was the package that didn't require a signature. We'll see how the 2nd one goes, that requires a sig.

Its 45euro at the below link
    verus

    amazon at 36 pounds = 41 euro + 4 euro address pal = 45 euro.

In fairness too, it may not be the best item to send through addresspal. weight, shape, dimensions, the fact that it's combustible etc.

It is in James Bond movies!!
I find it unusual that people never find these offers locally. Even with the pound very weak, it still makes sense to buy that locally. I think the small business V amazon convenience is why people can't find it in Ireland. I wish there was a marketplace for small businesses in Ireland a la amazon.. Then we wouldn't even need this addresspal thread.

what are the chances of it being oversized for the addresspal home delivery?

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,527 ✭✭✭✭Dan Jaman

Fire extinguishers are likely on the prohibited list.
I found this out when I had one go off in the courier's van. Luckily it wasn't AP, so I didn't get on a shytlist with them.

Couldn't find via search - Does anyone know if packages are delivered to the post office on a Saturday?

According to this post it seems possible.

I just received an AddressPal parcel from the UK this morning. I wasn't expecting a Saturday delivery. A quick search showed this result though:

My question to users of the service is this; has anyone had any experiences with mail being opened by the local PO? I can't imagine why they would, and unless something is illegal and already seized beforehand, how would the PO know if you ordered anything on the prohibited list?

I've seen multiple posts by people here saying they've had many laptop batteries come through fine despite them being prohibited, so I'm wondering if it's a relatively private and secure service?

MOD: I'm not sure where this question is going, but prohibited articles are on the list for a reason. Any parcel that causes suspicion may be opened to verify the contents. Customs may also open packages as they come in.

The local PO don't give a toss whats in your parcel, if its opened anywhere by An Post then it will have a label or tape on it that says opened by An Post.

fire extinguishers would be explosive, but not combustible (meaning catching fire).

Addresspal just list the same list as an post in their FAQ, while some reckon it all goes by sea and so should not be all the same. They might have taken the easy option.

In a different section on the addresspal site, in the T&Cs it says
    10. Materials Not Accepted

    An Post does not carry:

Dangerous, poisonous or infectious items, explosives, munitions of war, firearms, corrosives, acids, paint removers, oxidising substances, organic peroxides, compressed, liquidised or dissolved gases (including butane gas lighters or aerosols), flammable solids or liquids or materials liable to spontaneous combustion, paints, varnishes, dyes, radioactive materials), pornography or anything that would cause embarrassment in transit, living creatures, prescribed or dangerous drugs , mercury, materials deemed illegal or prohibited by any Government Authority, Perishable Goods, organic or biological materials likely to perish under normal transit conditions, IATA restricted articles - such as liquids, Items likely to cause injury to any other Item or person, unless An Post has agreed in writing to carry such Items subject to such conditions as determined by An Post.

there are far more things listed on the anpost site which is linked in the FAQ, the most notable being batteries -you could argue batteries might fall under some of those, but you would think they would take the time to mention batteries explicitly before the likes of "dyes" or things that would "cause embarrassment"

It might vary locally, but my postmaster told me he gets no Saturday AddressPal consignments into him.
AddressPal Home Delivery seems to do their thing on a Saturday, though.

And an FYI an posts Facebook page are useless. I contacted them to ask about address pal. They told me to send on my ap number and when I did they didn't even view the message, that was Wednesday. I responded again and they've ignored my message.

Keep in mind, I only asked a general question. They offered to look into my exact situation. Now they have ignored me.

Should you use address pal? NO!

They emailed me today. The courier has their signature on 3 parcels. I didn't make an enquiry with them. They email me saying that they need me to confirm the courier name, date of delivery or date delivery is expected and the tracking number for each item. Creepy thing is, why would they reach out to me? They only know I'm a customer when they receive my parcel.

They eventually called me after an over and back by email. The guy first states my parcels are missing. I ask how they would even know I had parcels if they werent received, according to him. He suddenly changes his story and says he just wanted to know the dates to make sure they get to me in 3-5 days. VERY shady goings on!! I asked him to confirm then that he had my parcels, and he said they received them aNd sent them out to Ireland. That I'd "hopefully" get them.

    An update:

My order from Europe, tracked and signed via DHL, has arrived in UK today as expected. The DHL site shows the status as delivered and that the signature says 'AD PAL'.

Since it was signed at 11am, I'm hoping it was sent from UK to Ireland today. Today is Monday, so I'm hoping AddressPal will message me saying it's at my local PO on Thursday.

It sucks that some users had nobody sign for their tracked parcel, but I can confirm that mine was signed and accepted.

(As a new user here, I cannot share images or links, but I've got an image of the AddressPal signature from DHL's site)

Just to be fair I had no problems with mine thank God! Ordered a Braun electric shave on the 11th and picked it up this morning. The box did seem like it hadn't been treated with a lot of care though.

Being signed by ad pal means nothing. All 3 of mine were, early to late last week, but they still messed up. If it's lost between here and there, nothing will be done.

Did they email you? I had an item the same day and they've done nothing but state they are all lost, then say actually they are all on the way to your PO. Nothing in writing. It's like they want me to think the stuff is lost.

Just that I got an email and text this morning stating the parcel was ready to be collected.

I ordered a battery on Amazon.co.uk using the AddressPal delivered at home facility and the parcel was delivered very promptly.

It was actually delivered on Saturday to my work address (which is the address I use for all deliveries)

The office was closed but the delivery man (post man?) actually rang me to let me know he had left the parcel in the post box.

Apparently Saturday delivery of parcels is a new thing.

    Excellent service.

I have some items ordered from the states using the AddressPal US service and I will update when/if it's delivered.

Not limited to address pal, now happens with ExpressPost items from Amazon sent directly.

Has anyone availed of delivery from the USA with them? I am assuming anything An Post handle from the USA will be subject to the usual custom & VAT charges before it lands at your door.

Correct, but not clear if An Post charge an extra tenner on top of it all for collecting the customs and vat.

I used it for the first time last week. You have to give An Post a valid credit card when setting it up. I got an e-mail from them on Tuesday of last week advising my package at arrived at the facility and a charge of 15.99 was being put on my credit card to pay for carriage. The package still has not arrived here (yet)- so I can't advise what the next step re customs etc is going to be. Cost of items was $120 (electrical parts for repairing a robot).

Thanks for information & fingers crossed your package arrives soon without any additional charges. Be good to hear your experience.

<SNIP> Mod: Items are on prohibited lists for a reason. No discussion of getting around prohibitions.
