Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
as the title says I found a distressed toad in my back yard.
He looks healthy enough.I have him in a perforated plastic box.
    What should I do?

How do you know it is distressed?
We have always had frogs in our garden. They live happily with the wet we have here - there isnt a stream/pond here. I would put it back in the garden - under some rocks or in a hedge/flowerbed that has plenty of cover from birds/cats/terriers.

And unless you live in a remote part of Kerry, or are not in Ireland, it's a frog, not a toad!
I'm also curious to know how it appears distressed? The mild weather has hibernation delayed this year, it is probably trying to find somewhere safe to bed down for winter. They often bury themselves in the soft mud near ponds.

I was out gardening (1 hour slot of no rain!) yesterday. My dog was going insane rooting for frogs where I worked. Even the cat got in on the game. There were plenty about, so as DBB says, hibernation is definately late this year. Even the squirrels are over active - they have started stripping the bark off our Red Oaks, and there isnt a pine cone or conker left on the ground!
