    Sorry for size of image,
    This is taking over some of my beds, its tough as old boot leather, any suggestions (apart from taking better care of the beds...)

    Its an algae or liverwart. Mostly due to bad drainage, the soil needs to be dug and aerated, add peat moss or similar and rough up the surface to allow drainage. Doesn't usually need chemicals.
