Any new 2010 bands anyone could recommend? I like weird, unconventional and ambitious artists that don't play to form, as in relying on classical or blues patterns, and aren't overproduced/polished as you would get with neoclassical type metal or whatever is on Kerrang or Scuzz. I quite like Ghost and that's about it from the 2010s so I need new music, finding it difficult to find anything out there that's interesting. (Not really a fan of Royal Blood, I respect what they do but they're a bit boring).

Do they have to be bands that were formed since 2010, or will material released since then do? Because if so, Vulture Industries - The Tower from 2013 is well worth checking out.

Oh, and seeing as you wanted something that doesn't rely on classical or blues patterns, Trepalium are a band you might find interesting as they mix death metal with ragtime, and do it extremely well.

    Give these albums a listen:

Vektor - Outer Isolation (progressive thrash metal / 2011)
    Alcest - Écailles de lune (post-black metal / 2010)
Thy Catafalque - Rengeteg (progressive metal / 2011)
Triptykon - Melana Chasmata (doom metal / 2014)
Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory and Injury (black metal / 2013)
Gorguts - Colored Sands (death metal / 2013)
Elder - Dead Roots Stirring (stoner metal / 2011)

Some of these bands aren't exactly new but these are all fantastic albums released this decade.

A mixed bag of recommendations here. This year has been a great year for releases, hard to pick a Top 10. Opeth fans should definately check out Wilderun, its my album of the year, stunning:)

    Solefald-"World Metal. Kosmopolis Sud" (2015) Avant-garde/Black

Wilderun - Sleep at the Edge of the Earth (2015) Progressive/Folk

Hail Spirit Noir - Oi Magoi (2014) Progressive/Psychedelic/Black

Occultation - Silence in the Ancestral House (2014) Doom

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Can anyone recommend bands that play melancholic, atmospheric music with strong melodies, doominess and progressive rock elements?

Definately check out Thy Catafalque as Anesthetize mentioned if you haven't already.

This one was recommended to me by Sólstafir, the band in the post above.

    Amazing song.
