ITB experience! Warning for potential students!

My overall experience of studying at ITB has been very negative. The modules offered in the prospectus have changed drastically since I began first year. Courses are reviewed every year and modules are taken out and replaced. The reason why I chose my course was because of the modules that were layed out in the prospectus, but most of these have been taken off the course. From talking to other current and former students, this seems to be the case with all the full time degee courses.

The college is badly managed. Lecturers who are absent for any length of time, are never replaced. There is no proper complaints procedure in place. Or at least, complaints seem to be largely ignored.
Students are not taken seriously and, if a student has a genuine desire to learn, the way the college is managed actually puts up barriers to their progress rather than help them learn.

There is very little or no communication also. Lectures are often cancelled and students are not informed.

The way that the college is managed is completely unprofessional and unacceptable for a third level institute.

It is also difficult to get to. There is nothing around the area for students to socialise. And there has been muggings of students during winter time just outside the campus in the past couple of years.

For those who drive, a parking permit of €80 per year must be purchased and there is limited parking available. Often, spaces are full.

I am interested in other people's experiences of ITB or how other colleges compare?

I've had a mostly positive experience thus far. In my final year of social care now but there has been a bit of unrest given the fact that certain electives have been taken out of the course due to a programmatic review.

I think it's a nice enough campus and is easy to navigate around but only this year did they start putting extra plug sockets around the place for those with laptops etc.

The library leaves a lot to be desired. They say they have a fine system in place regarding noise makers (mobile phones etc) but I have never seen them implement this at all.

Group study is fine for those wanting to work in groups but individual study areas are just as loud.

Lecturers are mostly good but a few assignments leave a lot to be desired with regards to relevancy for social care.

As I say, I've had more positive experiences than bad but these are a few gripes that myself and the majority of the student body have.

It wasn't on it when I did it. Course changed after us.
The wimps couldn't handle 8 modules in 2 semesters ;)

It is by far the worst college in the world, if you can call it college, and some of the lecturers are RACIST, I lost one year of my life in that place, complained about racism to all staff, Head of department, but was totally ignored.
I just could not hold it anymore and withdrew and transferred somewhere else.

That's a bit of a bold statement to be making.

ITB has a high hiring rate, and companies regularly visit us advertising potential places to work when we graduate, so the idea that we are the "worst" college is absolute crap, my experience is good and the informal atmosphere is common with most small colleges as far as im aware. Im in the computing coarse by the way, and most of the negativity is due to cuts, itb used to be alot better funded years ago.

All the big universities have high hiring rates, I'd pick UCD, Trinity or DIT, they all have good employment rates after college.

    And its course not 'coarse'!

    Thread closed.

And frankly, sad I didn't close this earlier.

If you want to have an informed, measured discussion, without trying to defame lecturers (Read the forum charter), or criticising each others spelling, or any other crap, feel free to PM me. Otherwise, I think we're done here.
