80K would be a massive fee for Limerick, throw in a few extras like sell on fee, caps, appearances and a friendly for good measure.

Would be a good opportunity for him to play and train with fully professional players and set up but Celtic haven't really brought that many youngsters through in the last few years so would be something for Paudie to think about, would more then likely be loaned out to some Scottish Championship team.

To be honest I reckon a lot of teams will look at him next season. Especially if he can establish himself next year as a starter. He should onto move if it's best for him which I reckon he will do.

I think quite a few teams have been looking at him already, just this has been the first time that any one club has been publicly mentioned. I can't see why he wouldn't be one of our two starting centre backs next season, I couldn't see why Paddy Kanyuka was favoured over him really

I think he will move in the next couple of years and from listening to him speak I couldn't see him just jumping at the first club across the water which offers him a contact, especially when having people like Robbie who has been around the lower leagues mentoring him these last two years and other lads like Duggie, Lee J and Shaun Kelly who've went across and came home again.

Our starting 11 is almost taking shape, thankfully so! But is there anyone that we can expect to step up from the underage structure and push for a place in our best match day 11?

Only one could possibly see doing that is Paudie seeing as he got a lot of game time last year while still playing with the 19's and will possibly be one of our starting centre halves along with robbie or hopefully be him and oji (fingers crossed and a prayer said)

Paudie definitely. Val Feeney has played 19's for 3 years now so it's his chance next year. At that level he has been absolute class on the ball.

A few 19's I saw at the final looked good but just need a few more years to Fe
    develope.

It's a pity there ain't no u21's league where players coming out of 19's but not yet ready for senior football to still stay in the game with senior clubs or players like Val who are ready but have three good premier division players ahead of you to still be getting regular football while waiting for his chance.

Another player you'll possibly see with the 19's next season and possibly training with the seniors at times is Aaron Fitzgerald. Limerick have a gem on their hands with this youngfella.

O'Flynn is 33, but he's always been a goalscorer. Hopefully he can show his class in the first division, maybe unlike some other big name signings they had before.

It's a very strong first 11 for the 1st Division, probably would have been good enough to stay up in the Premier Division if they had it for the entirety of last season. But the youngsters will have to be trusted more this year, is O'Flynn likely to play 90 minutes of every game? Someone will have to help with the goalscoring burden- Turner was the main man to help Faherty last year.

Am a big fan of Val, he has a very positive style of play about him and given time he will become a fans favourite. I know he has had a few shots of first team action over the last few seasons but he was in and out of the team during periods when the team wasn't doing well and playing some frustratingly disjointed stuff and it was therefore hard for him settle.

Big season coming up for Russell in terms of trying to maintain a winning team while developing and blooding fringe players such as Holland, McSweeney, Whithead, Feeney, Mann, Paudie and Brouder. It is probably a bit too early for the lad but it would be fantastic if Aaron Fitzgerald made an impact this year.

About time the fixtures were realised, not long left for a few away trips for a sing song and a bag of cans haha.

On the transfer front, Limerick have apparently signed the two hottest young strikers in junior soccer in Keith Mawdsley and Garbhan Coughlan who was with Limerick the last time they got promoted. Both have been training with the club during the pre season but don't think anything has been signed yet.

One the lads running the Blue Army page on Facebook posted a list of lads who were training with the club during week today on Facebook.

    Goalkeepers:
    Freddy Hall
    Tommy Holland

    Defenders:
    Robbie Williams
    Tony Whitehead
    Paudie O'Connor
    Colm Murphy
Shane Tracy (signed but not at training)
Shaun Kelly ( signed but not at training)
    Killian Brouder (19s)

    Midfield:
    Shane Duggan
    Lee J Lynch
    Paul O'Conor
    Chris Mulhall
    Stephen Kenny ( Not signed)
    Ross Mann (Not signed)
    Sean Russell (Not signed)

    Strikers:
    John O'Flynn
    Keith Mawdsley (19s)
    Garbhan Coughlan

Looking strong but the Club needs to add a bit more depth especially across the back four. Hopefully the club brings in another striker otherwise it looks like we'll be playing with one up top unless they plan on playing Lee J up just behind the striker.

Id say it will be one up top even if we bring in another striker. He seems to like Lee Jay playing in behind the striker, linking up the play and helping him close down defenders. It seems to have worked too. When Lee Jay did it behind Gaffney, then Gaffney started banging in goals and again last season Faherty started getting better success.

A lot of teams prefer the one up top with two wide men to add the extra support in attack and added defensive support of having five across midfield when not in possession, but I think the only thing with this season compared to last season is we are a lot weaker out wide and even though John O'Flynn is a proven goal scorer he's 33 now and doubt he'd be doing all the running which Vinny do last year. Think maybe going 4-4-2 this season especially at home will give the team another game plan and a plan B you could say which the team lacked last season.

Tomorrow's MSC game has been moved to the UL with a 3pm kick off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,929 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Limerick advance to the semis after a 3-1 win in extra time. Both Cork City and Waterford United lost today also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,929 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Limerick will be away to Cobh Ramblers in the MSC, no date has been arranged just yet.

Limerick away to Longford tonight in a (hastily arranged?) friendly.

Hopefully the players will get a bit more cohesive as a unit as time goes on.

Friendly was organised before Christmas. Was the first one to be announced.

The one on Sunday was hastily arranged I think, yesterday was the first I heard of the friendly away to Bray this Sunday.

Anyone know the price of entry to these friendlies?

Home Friendlies are free for season ticket holders. Not sure what they will charge for anyone else. Away games also will be up to the away team. Realistically it should be €5ish.

2-2 draw tonight in Longford, with 'guest players' Stephen Kenny and Guillermo Torres scoring first-half goals for Limerick.

Keith Ward on the bench according to the teamsheet (I wasn't at the game).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,929 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Not a bad result when you have four guest players in the starting 11 plus Chris Mulhall and young Liam McCartan being new to the senior squad.

Was also quite a young bench with mostly 19's, two just outta 19's and former Sligo and Dundalk midfielder Keith Ward.

    Who's that Torres fella?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,929 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

There isn't much on Google but I think he played with Boltons u18s and u21s before being released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,080 ✭✭✭Jofspring

Ya was with Bolton under age and Bolton B and has been released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,929 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Not a bad unofficial debut by getting on the score sheet, hopefully he can keep it up with the friendlies the club has lined up this month and signs for the club. Lacking depth up front and John O'Flynn is apparently carrying a knock which leaves Coughlan as the only senior striker.

Because of the rain, Limerick friendly with Dundalk is changed to 7pm in UL Astroturf pitches - admission free.
